Chapter 30 As the evening drifted more fully into night, the feasting came to an end. A sound filled the air, shimmering silver like the peal of some unearthly bell. “Stand up,” Thorne said, rising and taking my arm to pull me away from my chair. “The tables are about to be cleared.” He meant it quite literally. Between one heartbeat and the next, the table in front of us disappeared. The chair I’d been seated on was gone, as well. I tried not to stare like a gawky mortal unused to magic and miracles—even though I was one. “What happens if someone’s still sitting there?” I asked. “They sprawl upon the ground when their chair is dispelled,” Neeve said, sounding a bit as though she wished that had happened to me.
