Keira's POV
During Kaelan's business trip, a restless unease stayed with me that I could not quite shake. We had our scheduled video calls the first few days, three times daily like we promised, and hearing his voice and seeing his face had been the only thing keeping me sane.
But then on the fourth day, he missed our morning call. I waited, checking my phone constantly and telling myself he was probably just in a meeting that ran long. But the afternoon call was missed too, and by evening when he still had not contacted me, the unease had transformed into worry.
I tried calling him directly, but it went straight to voicemail. I sent messages that showed as delivered but not read. Something was wrong, I could feel it in my bones, but I had no way of finding out what.
