Gabi’s POV:
I woke up to a bright light shining directly on my face. I groaned before throwing the blankets over my head.
“Oh no you don’t,” I heard Ben say, he walked to my bed and began to pull at the blankets, “This is the first morning I’ve had off in forever, and I’m not gonna waste it waiting for you to wake up.” He gave the blanket one final tug, and they went flying across the room.
I sat up, staring daggers at him, “Would it have killed you to give me 5 more minutes?
“Yes,” He smiled down at me smugly. “Look what I got you.” He tossed multiple bags on the bed beside me, smiling proudly as he emptied all the contents. “I wasn’t sure what to get, so I got a little of everything.”
I picked up the various bottles of body washes, lotions, skin and hair care products, perfumes, and makeup. It looked like he raided the cosmetology section of the mall. “What is all this?”
“I told you I would spoil you silly today. Kelly went with me this morning and said these were all good brands.” I took a look at a few of the labels, and my eyes went wide with shock. They were all luxury brands. He must have spent a small fortune on all this.
“This has got to be a joke. This is too much. How much did you even spend.” He shrugged his shoulders at me casually, “You don’t even know. Did you not check before you paid?”
“This is no big deal, honest. Oh, and this.” he picked up another bag and handed it to me. “ I got us some matching workout clothes and sneakers, I wasn't sure what size you were so Kelly had to guess on everything, so let me know if anything doesn’t fit and we can go exchange it, or if you don’t like-”
“Hey, hey, slow down. I can’t take all this.”
“Why not?” Someone would think I kicked his puppy the way he was staring at me. He looked so defeated. “I know it's not much, but we can go on a shopping spree the next time I get off.”
“That's not the problem. Ben, this is too much.” He looked so sad. “Don’t make that face, I can’t take all this, I don't even need it.”
Ben sat on the edge of my bed and looked down at his hands. “I’m your big brother, but for the past 16 years, I haven’t been able to do anything for you.” He gazed up at me through his thick eyelashes, giving me his best puppy dog eyes. “Can’t you accept it, just this once?”
I sighed heavily, knowing this was not a battle I was going to win. “Do they have to be matching outfits?” His sad face turned into a bright smile immediately as he nodded his head at me. I rolled my eyes at him, “when did you even get all this?”
“First thing this morning, I figured I’d let you sleep in a little. Now get up.” He grabbed my hands and dragged me off the bed, “ It’s nearly 10, and we’ve got a lot to do.”
After I got washed and dressed, I went to go meet Ben in the living room, just to see that Aiden, Jonah, and Kelly were all there too, sitting in the dining room eating. Along with another lady cooking in the kitchen.
“It’s about time Gabs, come here.” I walked over to Ben as he got up. He walked behind me, grabbed my shoulders, and led me to the kitchen. “This beautiful lady right here is my Grandmother Agness. Grandma Aggie, this is Gabi, your new granddaughter.” The lady before me looked way too young to be a grandma to Ben, she didn’t look any older than 40, with her sandy brown hair tied back in a tight bun, and she wore light makeup that made her dark green eyes pop. The only real signs of aging are the wrinkles in her eyes as she smiled down at me, it seems like just about everyone towers over me here.
“Hi,” I gave her a shy wave.
“Oh no, none of that now.” she wiped off her hands on a dish towel before pulling me into a tight hug. “ I hope you’re hungry,” she pulled back from our hug and gestured to the table. “I’ve made my famous stuffed french toast just for you.”
I sat between Ben and Aiden as she put a huge plate of food in front of me. “Thank you, I hope I can finish it all”
“No worries there, they’ll finish anything you leave behind.” She ran her hand through Ben's hair affectionately, and he gave her a cheeky smile in return. Just as she predicted, the three boys ate more off my plate than I had. It's funny how such big men turn into oversized toddlers while fighting over bacon that wasn’t even theirs.
Right after breakfast, Ben handed me a set of keys and a keycard and entered my fingerprint and voice into the security system.
“The keycard will get you into all the private facilities on the 5th floor along with the elevator. The keys are for the suite. Try not to lose them. Joe lost his keycard last year, and a bunch of pups got into the entertainment room and trashed it.”
“I did not lose it. That pain in the ass Henry stole it because I kicked his ass in training.”
“So you say. Come on Gabs time for your official tour around the pack.”
The pack house itself was huge, more like a luxury resort. Not to mention, everywhere we went, everyone's eyes seemed to follow us. Apparently, we are ranked wolves, something like royalty to the rest of the pack. On the grounds surrounding the pack house were private and public gardens along with a huge pool. When we left the gates surrounding the pack house, we walked through what seemed to be a small town with all types of shops lined up. Ben and the others pointed out all the facilities to me. There was a market, hospital, schools, training fields, and even a farm. It was all pretty impressive, but it was a lot to cover, and my legs were killing me.
“Tired already?” Ben asked, bumping into me.
“You say that as if we haven't been walking around for hours.”
He laughed at me, “it's only been 2 hours Gabs, but we should be headed back to the pack house, almost time for training.”
“What exactly are you training for?”
The four of them exchanged looks. “It's ah… complicated. Want a lift?” Ben pointed to his back, trying to change the subject.
“How's it complicated?”
Ben sighed, running his hands through his hair. “We train to protect ourselves.”
I just looked up at him, confused. What would they need to protect against they're all huge, and if other wolves are as big as Odin, what could possibly put them in danger.
“Alright enough of this.” Aiden cut in, “ Let's go get some lunch before we hit the fields.”
Back at the pack house, we went to the dining hall. It was set up like a big buffet but a bit more formal. A long table set horizontal in the back on a raised platform with all the chairs facing the rest of the room that held dozens of large circular tables. The food was lined up on the right side of the room next to a door that I assume led to the kitchen.
Aiden grabbed my hand and led me to a table in the corner of the room, the rest following after us. I didn't miss the irritated look on Ben's face as he pulled out a seat for me. When I frowned at him, he just gave me a smile and patted my head.
“What do you want to eat, love? I'll make you a plate.”
“I'm not sure. What is there to eat?”
He shrugged his shoulders “not sure, I'll go take a look.” He grabbed Aidens arm and dragged him off to the food. Joe followed after them while Kelly sat next to me.
“Don't pay them any mind.” She said as I watched them in confusion. “Ben's just being protective.”
“What do you mean? Did I do something.”
She giggled. “Not you, Aiden. Wolves tend to be possessive over their females, especially the pups.”
My frown deepened at her explanation. “I don't get it, and why does everyone keep calling me pup.”
“Because you are one. We don't really use kid or baby, you're a pup.” She pinched my check, laughing at me again.
Aiden's POV:
“What the hell A.”
“What?” I was a little irritated after Ben dragged me off like that. “What's your deal.?”
“My deal. You have been staring at her all day, not to mention all the unnecessary touching.” Ben glared at me.
“I have not.”
“Yeah you have,” Joe came up behind us. “Honestly I'm amazed she didn't catch you being a creep.” I glared at him. Joe quickly put his hands up before going to fix his and Kelly's plate.
Ben took a deep breath before looking back at me calmly. “Look I know she's your mate, but she's still a pup. You need to keep your distance. s**t she still doesn't even know what a mate is.”
“I'm aware she's still underage. It's not like I was trying to drag her off to my bed.” Ben growled at me, and his eyes darkened. I felt Odin stir at the challenge. I closed my eyes and took several deep breaths to calm him down. “Look I get, I'll back off.” That seemed to calm him down a bit.
“Good.” He walked off to make their plates, but I could tell he was still irritated with me, and I could honestly understand why. If I had a younger sister, I'd be overprotective too, maybe even more so. After fixing our plates, we headed back to the table we're the girls were waiting. I wasn't paying much attention to the conversation around me, choosing to focus on my food and getting lost in my own thoughts instead.
“Aiden.” I heard Gabi, so I looked up from my plate to see everyone staring at me. I wasn't sure why she was calling me, so I looked over at Ben. He sat back in his chair, arms folded, staring at me as if waiting for a response.
“What'd I miss?”
“Ben said I had to go back up to the suite because you guys had to train.” I looked around, still confused as to why I was called. “...okay.” “Why can't I come?”
“Well, it's elite training. Those sessions are usually private.”
“You're in charge right, can't I just sit on the sidelines?”
“I'm not sure if that's a good idea.” I passed a glance over to Ben, but he just stared at me blankly. “It can get a bit intense.”
“So I have to sit in my room by myself for the rest of the day?”
“Come on Gabi, I said you could wonder around the pack house. Besides, you're supposed to be resting.”
“Or you could come with me. I'm going to the Lunas office to help her with some work.”
“ Yeah, why don't you hang out with Kelly and Aunt Beth? That could be fun.”
“Sit in my room and be bored or sit in the office and be bored.” Gabi sank back in her seat and pouted her lip out at Ben. It was easy to tell that Ben was starting to crack. Their relationship is barely 24 hours old, and she already has him wrapped around her finger.
“Gabi if I could, I would, but it really isn't allowed. we could get into a lot of trouble for taking you to the training fields.”
“Please Benji,” she paired up at him through her long lashes, giving his shirt a gentle tug. Joe snorted, trying to fight back his laugh as Ben's final shred of sanity snapped.
“Shut it,” Ben swung at Joe, who quickly dodged. “Hey this is payback for all the time you teased me for attending Dotty's tea parties.” I couldn't help but join in for that one.
Ben looked at me with a pleading look in his eyes. The only problem is I didn't know if he wanted me to agree or try to talk her out of it. Once Gabi realized the choice was up to me, she gave me the same pleading look that Ben did.
“Oh that's creepy. Just let her come, or we have to deal with the two of them walking around like kicked puppies.”
“Before any decisions are made, I'm gonna head out.” Kelly gave Joe a quick kiss before leaving the dining hall.
After a minute of being stared down by these siblings, Joe got up, nudging Gabi as he did. “Come on, Gabs, if he didn't say no by now, he's not going to.”
A bright smile spread across her face as she looked up at him, “really?”
“Yup, look at him. That is the face of a defeated man. She got up excitedly and stood next to Joe. “Come on guys, we don't want to be late.” Joe started heading out with Gabi close on his heels.
I exchanged uneasy looks with Ben. “Do you think she'll be able to handle it”?
“She'll be fine,we'll just ease up on the combat training for today.”
