Lyle followed her line of sight to his father. Vaughn looked like he’d been hit by lightning. “Dad? You okay?” “Fine,” Vaughn murmured. “I just…I think…we’re rushing into things…We need to talk this out. Up until today, you’ve never even mentioned having an interest in any of this, so I don’t think we need to start making plans quite yet. Besides, there are people to see. To talk to. Lyle, you know this.” Mrs. Connor threw both hands in their air. “We’re not talking about sending in deposits, Vaughn! I said a tour and a booklet. But none of this should be a shock to your system. The boy has his own life, wants his own life, anyway. That’s a normal process of growing up and moving on. For heaven’s sake, did you think you were going to keep him chained up in your backyard forever?” Vaughn
