Chapter 16: The Triangle

925 Words
Winter came into the Northern territories from Canada. Snowfall turned the landscape white, the lakes froze, and the air blew cold. Kali and Alexandra escaped at night for runs allowing their wolves to hunt and play. The triplets spent their time in snowball fights, making snowmen, and skating on the lake. Things seemed peaceful. "Alpha! The rogue scent was picked up again, the rogue is getting bolder it has crossed two rings of security," the Beta Marcus informed Kali.  Kali roared, "TWO RINGS! THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!" his wolf threatened to burst forward. The thought of anyone trying to harm his family heightening his anger. "I want a full report by the watchtower. I can not afford my security rings prove useless against a damn rogue!" Kali punched several buttons to sound the alarms to the first and second ring groups dormitories. "Marcus, line them up. I will have a talk with my soldiers. NOW! 5 minutes to the training field!" Marcus nodded, "Of course." He turned to leave sighing. These past weeks since his honeymoon, the Alpha trained ten times harder. This included all his recruits, military personnel, trainers, and soldiers. Everyone was starting to feel the pressure physically. Some even broke down crying. Marcus stood with his hands behind his back, straight faced and bellowed to the crowd. "Your Alpha has called you here today because two rings of security were passed by a single rogue. Those of you who patrol and serve the first and second ring of security please step forward." Marcus waited for Kali to address his men and women.  Not a single noise was heard as Kali stepped infront of Marcus. "My first and second ring are the first lines of defense. What happened today can not happen AGAIN!!! You are wasting my time if you continue to stand idle, allowing a simple rogue to cross our defenses. Since you've shown to me you're not taking this threat to heart, the first and second ring will train two hours before everyone else and leave 2 hours after everyone else! Trainers won't show you mercy, and you will do laps over if a single tear is shed. My displeasure is evident. Your Luna can not and should not put herself in danger when you're here to protect HER!!!" Kali hissed, struggling to contain his wolf. "Starting today, first and second ring will do as your trainers order by my command. The next time a rogue enters security I will demote." Kali signaled his trainers to step forward. "Trainer Graves, Hendrick, and Maloney will oversee you from now on. They will report to me daily, those who defy will be punished by our military council." Kali signaled Marcus, bending down he whispered "Send the first and second ring trainers to my office in ten minutes." Kali let out a furious growl. It made everyone whimper and bow their heads in submission.  Back in his office Kali waited for his trainers. The best trainers were assigned to the first and second ring, therefore this was not just a simple rogue visiting his border. Kali made his soldiers believe this, in hopes they'll stay more vigilant and ready to fight. A knock at the door... "Step in." Kali ordered. Sitting back in his chair.  "Take a seat, what I'm about to tell you should not leave this office. Do you understand. Swear it?" Trainer Des and Kanu nodded. "We swear, Alpha," they replied in unison. Kali took a map of his borders out, pointing to the first and second rings. On the map he had traced the areas were the rogue scent had been found. A triangle formed. Kali pointed to it,"The rogue has never left, it is hiding within this triangle. The scent is masked, this triangle seems to be a protective cover. This means there's a witch assisting our rogue, strong enough to bypass security rings without being seen. I pulled you off because I need you to go to Sabrina. Marcus, my beta will stay here. Let her know what we discovered and that I need her consul to break the spell. You go now, I expect word in a few hours." Kali trusted his trainers, especially his first and second lieutenants. Both Des and Kanu were his cousins.  "Alpha, this explains why the rogue eludes the trackers and crossed two rings. The third ring is set with a different spell, if it took him a few months to discover how to cross two the third ring is next," Des frowned. Kali sat up straighter directing a glare at Des, "No Des, not if Sabrina gets here on time. It took the rogue a few months, we have to secure the rings. What I want to know is who is this other witch, Lycans rarely use magic. This seems something my brother is doing! And, I need Sabrina here to confirm it." Kali sighed, he was not going to reveal the last part to his cousins but it came out. "Link me when you meet with Sabrina, she can teleport to my office. Go guys, don't get tricked into fish gils for ears again..." Kali smirked remembering. Their last visit to Sabrina was a few years ago, both his cousins came back wearing scarfs around their faces. When he ordered them to remove them, wha lah! Kali couldn't stop laughing. They never explained why Sabrina did this, after a week the fish gils disappeared.  I guess he sent his cousins to Sabrina wishing she'd play them a trick once more, those cousins of his definitely needed someone to wipe off some of their ego.
