A chilling promise

Chapter Eight /-Skylar-/ I wanted him to stay. Even if Adonis was terrifying, I hoped that my boyfriend would stick by my side and say no. He couldn't possibly leave me with Adonis. I didn't want to believe that he would. “Alpha…” Dwayne's voice trembled slightly. “May I ask… what I did wrong? Is it because I… I lied?” I hated that he was speaking so cowardly, trembling before Adonis. It was only going to encourage the cocky bastard. Adonis took a step closer. “Why?” He asked plainly. “Do I need a reason not to like you?” Dwayne couldn't speak, instead his grip on my hand tightened. “I do not care about your status. I just want you out of my sight,” Adonis said plainly. Dwayne looked at me helplessly and I cursed under my breath. I had no say in this now. It was his choice now to stay or bounce. I really hoped he didn't. Dwayne didn't say a word but from his body language, I was certain he was about to give in to Adonis' intimidation. I couldn't let that happen. “Fine, I'll come with you,” I said finally and he raised a brow. “Sweetheart, we have nothing to discuss,* he said, those beautiful eyes dancing with amusement. Of course he found this funny! “I think we have a lot to talk about,” I crossed my arms. For a second, it looked like he was just going to ignored me and continue bullying Dwayne with his terrifying aura but for some reason, he accepted to see me outside. He walked out without a word and I made to follow him but Dwayne's grip tightened. I glanced at him with an annoyed expression. “Could you convince him to let me stay?” He asked. “I don't stand a chance against him. You are the only one who can talk to him.” I almost rolled my eyes at his words. Some man he was! I yanked my hand away from him and headed outside. Adonis didn't stop in the hallway like I assumed he would. We kept walking until we got to the hallway. There was no one in sight. Just me and him. “What exactly are you trying to prove, Adonis? You can't just show up out of the blue and demand that I send my boyfriend away!” I angrily stated, glaring at him with everything in me. “I asked you nicely to get rid of him. It was your choice that brought us to this moment,” he said without emotion. My fists clenched hard. “Why can't you just reject me and let me go? I already told you that I have moved on. You married my mother, that was your choice. Dwayne is my choice. My man! And I love him…” I barely completed the words I was shoved against the wall, one hand around my neck and the other resting at the other side of the wall. My breathe hitched as I realised how close we were. His cologne, that sweet cinnamon mix teased my nostrils gently as those beautiful eyes pierced deep into mine. My heart was hammering against my chest as I became hyper aware of his presence. His body was just a few inches from mine and it was very distracting. I was fighting the urge to submit. “You seem to enjoy provoking me, sweetheart,” his tone was icy. I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out. Aria, on the other hand, was squealing. Like this was the very thing she had been waiting for. It made it more difficult for me to concentrate on fighting him off. “Skylar…” his voice came out as husky whisper as he leaned closer, his breath fanning the sides of my face as he spoke in my ears. “Do you have any idea how hard it is to see him around you.” I did. More than he knew. It was the same way I felt seeing him around Sarah. I wanted her gone. Out of his life for good and in a twisted way, I got what I wanted. He left her to marry my mother. Irritation shot through me. “Get your hands off me!” I hissed. “What if I don't? What will you do, princess?” He dared, tightening his grip around my neck as he pushed himself into me. A gasp fell off my lips as his body pressed against mine. My legs felt like jelly. Having so close… feeling him… was shamefully something I longed for. And even at this moment, I couldn't, didn't want it to stop. With Dwayne, a kiss was utterly disgusting and I just wanted him to get away from me but with Adonis, I was curious. Curious on how it would feel to have those perfect cherry lips mould against mine. I wanted to know what he tasted like… sweets? Mint? Milk? “Adonis…” his name fell off my lips like a confession. It happened so fast that I didn't even realise it. “Princess…” he whispered. The tension between was choking. The heat building up inside me was rapid and almost impossible to ignore. I was addressed by that term every single day but hearing it from him made my wolf giddy. It sent delicious shivers down my spine and stirred feelings that had no business resurfacing. “You are my uncle…” I whispered. “So what?” He breathed back. “My mother's husband…” I added. He didn't say anything to that. “If you can be with her then I can be with anyone I want,” I continued. He didn't pull away from me even though his jaw tightened. He kept staring at me. Like he wanted to devour me whole. My palms were sweaty. My forehead was begging to form beads of sweat. The hallway felt like it was burning. Or maybe I was the one burning under the intensity of his gaze. But Adonis didn't seem affected. Not visibly at least. “If you are okay with cheating on your partner then he can stay for all I care. But I'll make this clear, if I smell him on you, I will make sure I kill him. If I feel those hands around you, I cut off every single one of them. If he even tries to kiss you…” “You can't do that,” I blurted in panic. “I won't allow you hurt him!” “Fine. I will just have to punish you then,” his voice dripped into my ears like sweet tempting poison. “Somebody has to pay for touching my property, don't you think, princess?”
