Let him speak

Chapter Seven /-Skylar-/ Get. Off. Me. That was the only thought in my head as his lips morphed into mine. Please get off… I couldn't return the kiss. Instead, I was fighting the urge to push him away with everything in me. Even as our lips pressed against each other, I felt nothing. No butterflies, no heart race, nothing. The fact that I wasn't even surprised by my own reaction to him made it even more scary. I have imagine this scene a hundred times since we started dating and in all of it, my reaction was the same. The recurring emptiness. That was why I avoided kissing him for so long. Because I couldn't afford to hurt his feelings and now, I wasn't sure how long it would take for him to realize that I wasn't enjoying this. The door swung open at the same time and my body stiffened. Carlos immediately pulled away from me, finally giving me the distance I craved. I smelled him first. That intoxicating mix of pines and apples, with a touch of something darker. Anger maybe. Aria stirred with excitement of having her mate closeby. The exact opposite of how I felt. I bit my lip, unable to meet his eyes because I was afraid of the unending rage I might find them. “Alpha?” Dwayne gasped in surprise, bowing slightly. He still had his hands wrapped around me and even though I couldn't see him, I could feel the heat of his gaze. The piercing intensity of those seafoam eyes on the spot where Dwayne's hand rested. “We need to talk,” His icy tone cut through the room. I finally gathered the courage to look at him and the fury I saw in those made me want to crawl I to a hole and disappear for good. He was still in the blue royal robe but his silver streaked hair was messing now, falling over his sides of his face like he ran his hand through them a hundred times. He was beautiful… “Alpha, I…” “I wasn't speaking to you,” Adonis cut in harshly. Dwayne swallowed thickly, slowly unwrapping his arm around my waist. I could see the tinge of colour on his face from the embarrassment. That gave me more than enough courage to snap out of my daze. What the hell was I doing drowning in the devil's beauty when he was about to ruin my life. “No.” The temperature in the room dropped by a couple of degrees after that word rolled off my lips. Adonis took a step forward, his scent intensifying with Alpha energy that it was almost choking. “What did you say?” Dwayne's eyes went wide and he looked at me pleadingly, begging me to back down and just do what the man wanted. Yet my stupid pride wouldn't let me. I already knew what he wanted to say. Asides that, I honestly didn't want to be alone with him. I didn't trust my body around him. So I grabbed on to Dwayne's hand to boost my confidence a little. It was a very crazy thing to do but I couldn't think of anything else. “If you want to say something to me, you say it to the both of us!” My voice came out a lot more confident than I felt. My stomach was twisting inside from nervousness and my heart… the stupid thing was slamming against my ribcage. Adonis' eyes moved from my eyes to the interlocked hands. ‘What the hell are you doing, Sky? Are you trying to provoke him?’ Aria scolded. On the contrary, I wanted to show the asshole that he had no control over my life. I was my own freaking person! He couldn't just claim me anytime he wanted simply because the goddess thought it was funny to pair us together. Dwayne scooted closer to me. “What the hell are you doing, Skylar?” He whispered. “He looks pissed.” “So what if he is?” I retorted, staring Adonis dead in the eyes. My lips quivered slightly and I could feel my palms begin to get sweaty. “If what he has to say is so important then he wouldn't mind saying it to the both of us!” There was a thick silence in the room. “Fine,” Adonis said suddenly, catching me off guard. I didn't think he would actually say anything in front of Dwayne. “I want him gone. This minute.” Dwayne's jaw dropped at the same time as mine. The audacity was just baffling. He might be Alpha but that didn't give him the right to dictate the lives of everybody else. “Unfortunately, Alpha. That is not happening. Dwayne will stay here with me until he feels like leaving!” I stated, surprising even Dwayne himself. He attempted to pull his hand away from mine, probably to apologise to Adonis but I held on tighter, refusing to let go. I was prepared to see him do his worst. My defiance didn't sit well with Adonis because his jaw tightened and when his eyes met our intertwined hands again, his lips pressed tightly together. “Omega,” Adonis stared at Dwayne with a chilling expression. “Don't make me repeat myself. I might not hurt her but I will hurt you if you try to defy me…” A shiver ran down my spine at the threat. I didn't want to believe that he would actually hurt Dwayne. He was bluffing. He had to be… “I am only going to say this once…” Adonis took another step closer. “Get. Lost.” Dwayne was practically shaking by my side now. I could feel beads of sweat form on my forehead as the man towered us. He was so large. Intimidating. I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out. My tongue wouldn't cooperate with me and Dwayne was shivering like a chicken. “I said…” I sucked in a deep breath, fighting the sirenic pull of those mesmerizing orbs. “He's not going anywhere. If he leaves, I leave too. Make your choice, Alpha.” He didn't even bat an eye lash, but those lips curled into a deadly smirk. “He's a man, let him speak for himself.” Adonis’ eyes didn't leave mine as he threw the statement at Dwayne. “Omega, will you leave willingly or should I remove you?" Dwayne paled out immediately.
