chapter 19 : the revelation

849 Words
Sadie had been trapped in the mansion for days, each passing hour amplifying her boredom and simmering fury. The silence of the house, once oppressive, had become almost unbearable. The walls seemed to close in on her, and with nothing to do but think, her mind spiraled into a dark place, filled with anger and helplessness. She clenched her fists, feeling the familiar sting of frustration, waiting for the moment when she could finally release all the pent-up emotions. When the front door creaked open one evening, her heart skipped a beat. Jake was back. Without thinking, she stormed toward him, fists flying as she tried to hit him with all the force of her rage. But Jake effortlessly caught her wrist mid-swing, a smug smile creeping onto his face. "Somebody missed me," he taunted, his voice dripping with mockery. "I hate you so much!" Sadie screamed, her voice cracking under the weight of her emotions. She could see a flicker of something in Jake’s eyes—anger, perhaps—but before she could react, he had swooped her up in one swift motion. She struggled against him, her protests growing more desperate as he carried her toward his room. It was futile; Jake’s grip was unyielding. He kicked the door open and tossed her onto the bed with little effort. The force of the landing took the wind out of her, leaving her momentarily stunned. As she lay there, catching her breath, she watched in horror as Jake began to unbutton his shirt. Her mind raced with a million terrifying possibilities of what he might do next. Panic surged through her, and she could feel her face growing hot, the blood rushing to her cheeks. Jake caught her expression and smirked. "Where is your mind going? You really want me to do it, don't you?" His tone was playful, but there was an edge to it that sent shivers down her spine. Before she could respond, he pounced on her, pinning her down beneath his weight. Sadie’s heart raced as she felt the strong, steady beat of his heart against her own. The closeness, the intensity of the moment—it was all too much. Her face turned an even deeper shade of red, and she tried to push him off, but he was too strong. "What do you want from me, woman?" Jake asked, his voice low and demanding. Sadie knew she had to think fast. She forced herself to meet his gaze and tried to appear calm. "I want to see my grandma," she said, hoping to catch him off guard. Jake let out a short, harsh laugh, then abruptly got off the bed. Without another word, he turned and walked out of the room, leaving Sadie alone with her racing thoughts. The next morning, a maid entered Sadie’s room, informing her she needed to get dressed because she was going out. Shocked but curious, Sadie dressed quickly. When she went downstairs, she found Jake lounging on the couch. For a moment, she couldn’t help but notice how handsome he looked when he wasn’t being a bully. Without looking up, Jake said, "If you're done staring, can we leave?" "I wasn’t staring, and where are we going?" Sadie shot back. "That’s for me to know and for you to find out. And I did see you staring," Jake replied with a smirk as he headed to the car. Sadie followed, feeling a mix of frustration and curiosity. As they drove, Sadie recognized the route—they were heading toward her grandma’s house. Surprised, she blurted out, "Thank you so much, Jake. I love you." A blush crept onto Jake’s cheeks as Sadie quickly covered her mouth, realizing what she’d said. Clearing his throat, Jake chuckled. "Woman, you confuse me. First, you call me your man, then you say you hate me, and now you’re telling me u love me" "Shut up," Sadie muttered, her face burning with embarrassment. When they arrived at her grandma’s house, Jake got out and told Sadie to wait. He went inside briefly and returned, then told her she could go in. Sadie entered, but when her grandma tried to hug her, she pushed her away. "I’m here for business," Sadie said coldly. As they talked, Sadie persistently asked questions until she uncovered a shocking truth—she was an illegitimate child. Her dad had a girlfriend who died while giving birth to her, leaving him to care for Sadie. When she turned three, her dad met her stepmom, who never liked her but married him for money. The revelation hit Sadie hard, and she bolted out of the house, tears welling up in her eyes. Not knowing where she was running, she felt her world crumbling. Jake, who had followed her, caught up with her in his car. He managed to get her back inside, but Sadie sat silently, holding back her tears. When they arrived back at the mansion, she ran to her room and locked the door behind her. Jake followed, knocking, but she refused to open the door.
