Her brother sighed as he pulled into the driveway of the small, two-story house. Their mother had sent Hailey a text saying that she had bought her a new dress and that she had to wear it to the packhouse. Neither of them wanted to do this, though Alex was forced by his duties as a future alpha, she had no such promise. But here she stood, still having to go. "How long do you think it take someone to notice if we ditched, hopped on a plane and when to see Aunt Carmen and Auntie Mae?"
"Within the hour." For you at least. He let out another large sigh,
"Guess I have to pretend to be an adult then." He got out of the car, roughly slamming the door and she followed him slowly.
Hailey stared at the dress in a confused state. The dress that had been laid out for her was a small black dress, She already wasn't even sure it would cover her body completely but even then there were massive holes cut out of the sides of the dress. She was positive that her mum had not picked this out but had sent her assistant to do so instead. "You're not wearing that." Hailey’s head shot up to look at her brother standing in the doorway for the room.
"But mum said-"
"Well, I don't f*****g care." He snapped and she watched him and raised an eyebrow. He came into the room and went over to her closet, he pulled out a yellow floral dress, "Wear this one instead." He said while pulling it off the hanger he then tossed the dress at Hailey. She caught it and he stormed out of the room.
Hailey pulled on the dress and struggled a bit to tie up the back but got it done right after a bit. The dress was a high neck sleeveless sundress with a beautiful floral print, her Aunt Mae bought it for her and said that it was just a little gift but Hailey searched for it online and new it was expensive.
After she pulled on a pair of white flats and brushes out her hair. As she was finishing Alex came back into the room, all dressed up. He wore black dress pants and a light yellow button up top that had the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. "Ready to go?" He asked with a small sigh, she nodded and off to the packhouse they went.
Though the twins were dressed for the occasion, they were also rolling around in the grass in some sort of argument, everyone else though, they all looked stunning. The two walked up to the small group waiting, "See, isn't it a lovely dress, dear. " her mother said and her father looked like he was going to say something.
"Aunt Mae bought her that dress." Alex spoke sharply and the redhead stiffened a bit.
"What about the dress-"
"Alita bought her a really slutty dress." He cut her off
"I-I see." She said with a small shrug. Bailey's father looked back and forth between his son and his mate a few times before just looking at Hailey.
"You look lovely." He smiled gently
"Thanks, dad."
Her mother's entire body stiffened and she let out a small growl, "What is she-"
"Hon, it's fine." A black car with tinted windows pulled into the driveway of the packhouse. A tall redheaded woman popped out of the car with a slight smile,
“What are you doing here, Carmen?” Hailey's mother snapped at her twin, though Carmen dismissed it with ease,
“I was in the area for a meeting with an alpha and thought I’d send the boys ahead to the airport while I said hello to my family.” She spoke as she walked up to them. Aunt Carmen had always looked than their mother to the kids, while they looked technically almost identical. Carmen, like the other two women, had bright yellow eyes but hers always seemed warmer than their mothers. Her bright red hair came to her thighs and was always left out to be wild and messy their mother's hair was not. Carmen also had a huge scar on her neck from a fight, a scar that deep meant she must have nearly lost her head but she always said they barely grazed her. Their mother's skin on the other hand, clean and pristine, like she’d never been in a fight.
“You guys are always welcome to stay here, there is no need for you to leave right away.” Hailey's father said with a smile.
“How kind of you, Connor, but there’s no need to lie in front of the kids,” Carmen said as she patted his shoulder, “Besides it’s so hot down here and your lands are too small. I won't be staying too long, don’t worry, I’ll leave before any of your friends show up.” She said waving off her twin like she could read her mind. Connor got pulled aside by his wife and the aunt was left alone with two of her nephews and her niece. She hugged both of the boys and chatted with them for a moment before turning to Hailey and giving her a hug
“There’s my baby girl!” Carmen said as she gave her a tight hug. “How have you been?”
“I’m fine, Aunt Carmen.” She raised an eyebrow and Hailey knew Carmen did not believe her but didn’t ask more. She pulled out two pieces of paper and handed it to me and Alex
“Look I know your mother doesn’t like you guys having contact with me but-”
“f**k her.” Alex cut her off and Carmen chuckled softly
“These are the contacts for me, Mai and our packhouse. If you guys need anything call us. Kal-
“I’ve still got them.” Haileys’s eyes snapped to her eldest brother, he had Carmen and Mai’s numbers and never told her? What the f**k. Carmen nodded,
“Hide them from Ophelia.” She hugged us all again and gave Hailey a kiss on the forehead. “I’m off!” She yelled and went back to the car and disappeared. Hailey and Alex hid the paper and then Hailey turned to her eldest brother,
“We’re going to talk about this.” She growled and he nodded nervously.
Soon Atlas and all the other high ranking member showed up to greet the coming people, Hailey’s mother came up to her and grabbed her by the jaw, it wasn’t rough but it wasn’t nice either. “I’m not playing around today. Just shut up and look pretty okay, no one gives a f**k about you today, this is about your brothers and the future of this pack.” Her gold eyes glared into Haileys and she felt like her knees were going to give out. She rolled her eyes almost like she was saying she shouldn’t have bothered and walked away.
“What did she say to you?” Alex asked walking away from the group of important people.
“Nothing,” Hailey said crossing her arms over her chest. “Why does she get like this when Carmen comes?”
“Who knows, she’s nuts.” Alex wrapped an arm around her shoulder and led her away to stand with him.
People soon arrived and Hailey stood next to her brother and talked to them all as they arrived. After what felt like forever, everybody was there except for one alpha who said he was going to be late but sent the rest of his people ahead to inform them. And so the party began
“I need a drink.” Hailey huffed and walked away from her family.
