Behind the Facade

Chapter 2

It's been almost 3 months since Benedict left home. He calls her every day to check up on her. One sunny Wednesday, Ethan and Jane were playing together. A senior who likes Jane called her, but Jane didn't respond because she didn't like him. Almost every boy had a crush on Jane, but she wasn’t interested in any of them. He came closer to Jane and threatened her because she ignored him. Ethan then interfered, and a fight broke out. Someone hit Jane and ran away. She fell and hit her head, becoming unconscious. Ethan started crying, shaking, and calling for Jane. He called for help, and a teacher rushed out. They took Jane to the health center and transferred her to the hospital.

Athalia came to the hospital and asked Ethan what happened, but he kept on crying. The doctor called for Athalia’s attention and told her that Jane would be unconscious for a while because she hit her head seriously. He also has something else to say. Athalia became scared and told the doctor to continue. The doctor then told her that Jane had a bad kidney and that she needed a kidney transplant. Athalia burst into tears. She called Benedict immediately. The next day, Benedict arrived and cried loudly, blaming himself for what happened. Athalia told him not to blame himself, and the next step is to find a solution. Benedict bribed the doctors in top emergency centers to convince relatives of dead patients to donate their kidneys, but none responded. So Benedict decided to donate his own and told Athalia to take care of Jane. The transplant was successful, but Benedict died because his other kidney was not functioning well. Immediately after she woke up, she asked for her dad.

Athalia broke the news to her. She wept so much and started saying that this is how she became an orphan. Athalia told her not to cry again. She kept crying and was confused about life. Later, she was taken into therapy and discharged. She started living with Athalia and Ethan. Jane and Ethan became very close and did everything together. They finished secondary school and got admitted to the best university. Jane decided to study estate management, while Ethan studied medicine. Ethan still created time to visit Jane despite his tight schedule. Athalia visited them regularly and made sure she provided for Jane. Being freshmen was so crazy; they had a lot of events. Jane and Ethan tried to attend most of them so they could make friends, but Ethan didn’t like going to some because both higher-level and freshmen tried their best to woo Jane, but she declined. They went home for a holiday and visited Athalia’s office to help her with some office work.

While Jane was working, she hit a young, charming man, and that was Tyrone, Madam Veronica’s son. Jane apologized. Tyrone then helped her pack the files that fell, and he introduced himself; she also introduced herself. They both exchanged numbers, and she left. Jane entered Athalia’s office and asked why she stayed so long to get the files. Jane apologized and explained what happened. Athalia then asked who the guy was, and Jane told her that his name was Tyrone. Athalia then told her that he was Madam Veronica's son. Jane then smiled and said, "Wow, I never knew she had a son." Athalia then explained to her that he doesn’t stay here; he lives with his grandma, but she passed away. Ethan then joined the conversation and asked if Jane liked him. She laughed, and Ethan said that he only asked a question. Then Jane said he is not a bad young man; he is good-looking, I guess. Ethan then said, Hmm, good-looking, and they all laughed. Athalia then told them to start preparing to go home. Later that evening, Tyrone called Jane, and then they started talking. Tyrone couldn’t get the picture of Jane’s face out of his head. Tyrone then asked about her school and her course. She told him, and she also asked for his own. He said mechanical engineering and that they are in the same school. Then Jane asked him for his favorite sport, and Tyron said basketball. They spoke for a long time, then Ethan came to Jane’s room, and he interrupted the call. Tyrone then told Jane that he would see her tomorrow, and they ended the call.

The following day, Tyrone came to her place and asked a lot of questions, but he was pissed by the fact that Ethan was involved in almost all the discussion, but Ethan understood and left. When Tyrone was about to leave, Jane escorted him. On the way, Tyrone said that he doesn't know if he is too fast, but he loves her. "You are very beautiful, and I won’t want to lose a beauty like you," said Tyrone. Jane smiled and said, Thanks, Tyrone, but don’t you think you are going so fast? I just want us to be sure of what we are doing. Please let us take our time and think well. Then Tyrone said that if that’s what she wants, then there is no problem. When she got home, she called Ethan and told him what happened. Ethan said he is a calm young man; let us give him a chance and see how this goes. When the break was over, Athalia called them and spoke to them. She also advised Jane to be careful of Tyrone. When they got to school, people thought Tyrone and Jane were dating, people were envious of them and came up with different rumours but they were still strong and they never dated until their third year. They were both doing a 5-year course, and Ethan still had 2 years in school. Madam Veronica held a party for Tyrone, and at the end of the party, Tyrone proposed to Jane, and everyone echoed "yes.".
