Jealous?

Kael watched Velkan for a few seconds before speaking. “Come. Let’s go to the office.” Velkan smiled casually. “That sounded way too serious for my taste.” Even so, he followed him. Minutes later, the two entered Kael’s enormous office. “Your office is huge. Looks like you remodeled it after I left this place a few years ago.” Kael said nothing. He walked toward a small glass table and picked up a bottle. He calmly poured two glasses of whiskey and handed one to his brother. Velkan took it immediately. “I wasn’t expecting you until next week,” Kael commented before taking a sip. Velkan dropped into one of the armchairs. “I decided to come earlier. I was bored.” Kael looked at him with obvious impatience. “This pack isn’t some game to cure your boredom. Everyone here works for the good of the territory.” Velkan let out a small laugh while swirling the whiskey in his fingers. “Does Amaris work too?” Kael slightly raised an eyebrow. “No. She has no reason to.” Velkan smiled at that. “When you said everyone works, I thought she did too.” “No,” Kael repeated calmly. Velkan took another sip of whiskey before speaking again. “You have a beautiful and pleasant wife. Very different from Belilah.” Kael tensed immediately. That name overwhelmed him completely. “Belilah acted like she owned everything just because she was your Luna,” Velkan continued without fully noticing the change in his brother’s expression. “I could never stand that.” Kael slammed the glass down onto the table with a loud thud. “Belilah is part of the past.” Velkan fell silent as he looked at his face. “And in this pack, mentioning her is forbidden.” Velkan raised both hands calmly. “Alright. I won’t mention her again.” Then he let out a small laugh, unable to stop himself from adding another comment. “But I had to say it. That woman had you completely blinded. I just hope love never blinds you like that again.” Kael looked at him without changing his expression. “I will never fall in love again. You can be sure of that.” Velkan tilted his head slightly. “Then that means your marriage has another purpose. I assume you’re looking for heirs,” Velkan added. Kael picked up his glass again and drank a little before answering. “I’m not discussing that with you,” he said before standing up. “You should get some rest. I’ll show you your room.” Velkan smiled in amusement. “You’re still just as kind as ever.” Kael ignored the comment, and both of them left the office. A few minutes later, they reached one of the rooms on the second floor. “You can stay here.” Velkan looked around the room and smiled with satisfaction. “Goodnight, brother.” Kael only gave a slight nod before leaving. Shortly afterward, he entered his own room. There was very little light, but even so, he could see his wife’s silhouette on the bed. Amaris was sleeping deeply. Kael remained silent for a few seconds, watching her. The scratches on her skin were still visible, though they already looked better. Then he slowly walked toward her, leaned down slightly, and gently caressed her cheek with his fingers. His gaze remained fixed on her. Deep in his mind, there was only one thought. She had to be an incredibly strong she-wolf to block his thoughts that way. Because never… never could he hear what was going through Amaris’s mind. And that frustrated him. Kael slowly pulled his hand away after realizing what he had just done. Then he simply lay down on one side of the bed without touching her again. The next morning arrived quickly. Amaris woke up feeling much better than the day before. Although the wound on her leg still hurt a little, she could walk better now. After getting ready, she went downstairs to the dining room. When she entered, she found Kael, Gretel, Aldo, and Velkan having breakfast. “Good morning,” she greeted. Everyone answered almost at the same time, but Velkan smiled as soon as he saw her. “Good morning, Amaris.” Gretel immediately looked at both of them. “You already knew each other?” Amaris calmly took a seat before answering. “We met last night when he arrived.” Velkan smiled playfully. “That’s right. I had the good fortune of meeting a very pleasant woman.” Kael slowly lifted his gaze toward him. “Enough. Eat in silence.” Velkan let out a small laugh and continued eating. After several minutes, Kael set his cup down on the table and looked at his brother. “Aldo and I need to go handle some matters. We’ll return later.” Kael looked directly into Velkan’s eyes again. “And when I come back, I’ll find some work for you.” Velkan pretended to look offended, though his tone was amused. “What a cruel welcome.” Then Velkan looked toward Amaris. “If you’re feeling better, maybe you could show me around the mansion.” Kael answered before she could. “Amaris still needs to rest.” Amaris looked at him immediately and smiled. “A little walking will do me good. Besides, I’ll just be showing Velkan the mansion. I already feel much better.” Kael remained silent for a few seconds, but in the end, he said nothing else. He simply stood up beside Aldo, and the two of them left the dining room. A few minutes later, they were walking toward the car parked in front of the mansion. Aldo glanced sideways at Kael. “What was that back there?” Kael opened the car door. “What do you mean?” Aldo let out a small laugh. He already had a good idea of what was happening. “You looked jealous of your own brother.” Kael looked at him seriously. “Didn’t you notice the way Velkan was looking at Amaris?” Aldo’s eyes widened slightly in amusement. “Velkan is like that with everyone. He’s relaxed, smiles too much, and always looks like he’s flirting even when he doesn’t mean to.” Kael clenched his jaw slightly, making it obvious that the thought bothered him. “Velkan is exactly the kind of man any woman would want.” Aldo stayed silent, listening to him. “He’s passionate, entertaining, loving… any woman could fall in love with him.” Aldo watched him for a few seconds before asking, “Do you think Amaris could fall in love with Velkan?” Kael looked away toward the mansion, and his expression hardened more than usual. “I’d rather not think about it.” Then he got into the car, and finally, the two of them drove away.
