Gretel noticed it immediately. That expression on Kael’s face… she caught it instantly. A slow smile appeared on her lips. “Amaris was very kind to show you around the mansion, Velkan.” Velkan smiled, clearly amused. “Yes, she was.” Gretel picked up her glass with slow satisfaction while looking at Kael. “In fact… the two of you look very good together.” A brief silence settled over the table the moment those words left her mouth. Kael lifted his gaze toward her, unable to hold himself back any longer. “What do you mean by saying they look good together?” Gretel feigned innocence and shrugged playfully. “Today you two were laughing, walking together, and enjoying yourselves. I mean it in a good way.” Velkan let out a laugh while glancing at his brother’s wife. “Amaris is actually a very pleasant girl. Unlike you.” Gretel’s smile disappeared only seconds later. Kael calmly placed his utensils on the table. “That’s enough. We should eat in silence.” But Gretel clearly had no intention of stopping. “I can’t stay quiet about certain things when you’re not here.” Amaris quickly lifted her gaze toward her. “And what exactly do you see when Kael isn’t here?” Amaris asked in a cold tone. Kael stared at her after hearing those words. The tension between the two women became so intense that no one dared speak for several long moments. “Amaris, come to my office,” Kael finally said. Amaris silently rose from her chair and followed behind him. As soon as they entered the office, the door closed behind them. Kael stared at Amaris in a way that was unusual for him. Amaris smiled when she noticed the way he was looking at her. “I want you to stay away from my brother,” he said. Amaris looked at him rebelliously. “I have no reason to do that. Or why exactly should I?” “Because my brother only talks about women, thinks about women, and breathes women,” he finally confessed. Amaris slowly stepped closer again and cupped Kael’s face in her hands. “I would never look at another man the way I look at you.” Her lips brushed against his before she spoke again. “And I will never love another man, no matter who he is.” Kael took a deep breath, trying to keep control. But Amaris could clearly see the conflict inside him. Then he spoke again, his voice colder and harsher. “And Daryl?” Amaris quickly lowered her hands from his face. “There’s nothing going on with him.” Kael kept staring at her without looking away. “He’s obsessed with you.” “I know. But I already made it clear to him that I don’t want anything with him.” Kael stepped back slightly to study her expression. Since he couldn’t read her mind, maybe he could discover the truth through her face instead. “Then explain to me why you spent the night with him.” Amaris’s heart started beating faster than normal. “Everything was confusing.” Kael kept his gaze fixed on her. “Did you sleep with him?” A wave of shame rushed through Amaris’s body. “Kael… I never would’ve done something like that if I had been conscious.” Kael clenched his fists slightly, but to her relief, he already held the truth in his hands. “For your peace of mind… nothing happened between you two.” Amaris widened her eyes in shock. “How do you know that?” Kael looked away for a brief moment before answering. “I just know. That’s all.” Amaris was still confused, but before she could insist further, Kael looked directly at her again. “As for Velkan…” His voice became harsher the moment he mentioned his brother’s name. “Stay away from him.” Amaris frowned in disagreement. “You can’t forbid me from getting close to someone.” Kael remained completely serious. “Velkan only thinks about women.” Amaris let out a small amused laugh. “Are you jealous of your own brother?” “Of course not.” Her smile widened even more after hearing that. Then she slowly stepped closer until she was standing right in front of him. “Yes, you are.” Kael didn’t answer, and that practically confirmed Amaris’s suspicion. She stood on her tiptoes and stole a short kiss from him. “You have nothing to fear.” Kael closed his eyes for a few seconds, feeling her lips against his. When he opened them again, Amaris was still far too close to him. “You’re the only man I want.” Kael’s breathing weakened around her, as if the air itself had vanished. Amaris caressed his neck passionately. “Make love to me.” Those words completely destroyed the little control he still had left. Kael immediately grabbed her by the waist and pulled her roughly against him. Amaris let out a soft gasp when he kissed her intensely. There was no coldness left in that kiss anymore. It was pure desire that had been restrained for far too long. Kael’s hands moved passionately over her body while he pushed her against the massive wooden desk. Amaris responded with the same need, clutching tightly onto his shirt. Kael lowered his lips to her neck, leaving intense kisses along her skin. “You make me completely irrational…” he murmured against her neck. Amaris closed her eyes as her body trembled beneath his touch. Then Kael carefully lifted one of her legs around his waist, making sure not to hurt her wound. His hands began undoing Amaris’s dress while his lips continued trailing over her skin. Her breathing grew heavier. “Kael…” He kissed her passionately again before lifting her into his arms and sitting her on top of the desk. Documents fell to the floor, and he couldn’t have cared less. Kael rested his forehead against hers for a few seconds, trying to regain control. But Amaris kissed him again, and that completely shattered every remaining limit. The office became a witness to their romance. “Amaris…” Kael breathed out. Kael touched her as though he wanted to memorize every part of her. And Amaris held him tightly as if she feared he might pull away from her again. For the first time since she arrived in Crimson Moon… Kael completely stopped holding himself back with her.
