Kael remained leaning against the door to Amaris’s room. From the other side, he could still hear her sobbing, and every cry made him clench his fists in frustration. Suddenly, footsteps echoed down the hallway. It was Aldo. His friend looked at the closed door and then at Kael. “Why did you lock Amaris in her room?” Kael remained silent for a few moments. Everything was becoming too much for him. “Because she wanted to leave the mansion.” Aldo frowned, completely unable to understand what was happening. “And what’s wrong with that?” “I can’t allow it.” That answer only surprised Aldo even more. “Why not?” “I’d rather not talk about it.” Kael straightened up and started walking down the hallway. “I’m going to check on Belilah.
