Dinner time arrived much faster than Amaris would’ve wanted.
After hearing those words from Kael, the last thing she wanted was to see him.
But she also didn’t want to appear weak, so she eventually made her way down to the mansion’s enormous dining hall.
The moment she walked in, her eyes immediately found Kael seated at the head of the table.
Gretel was sitting to his right, while Aldo remained seated across from them, calmly drinking from a glass.
All three looked up when they saw her enter.
Amaris took a deep breath before speaking.
“Good evening,” she said politely.
“Good evening,” Aldo replied first.
Kael simply nodded, while Gretel offered a slight smile.
“Good evening, Luna Amaris.”
Amaris took her seat without saying anything else.
The servants quickly began serving dinner.
The silence lasted only a few seconds before Gretel spoke almost immediately.
“I have to admit, I’m still curious.”
Amaris barely lifted her gaze.
“About what?”
Gretel smiled as she picked up her glass.
“About how the hell you managed to appear in Kael’s life at exactly the right moment.”
Amaris understood perfectly the hidden meaning behind those words.
“I have no reason to give you personal explanations.”
Gretel didn’t seem offended.
“I’ve heard quite a lot about the attacks that have happened in this mansion since your arrival.”
Aldo immediately looked up, while Kael remained completely serious.
Amaris slowly set her utensils down on the table.
“Are you implying something?” she asked, trying to remain calm.
Gretel shrugged lightly.
“I’m just saying it’s too much of a coincidence. Everything started after you arrived.”
Amaris’s eyes hardened.
“I have nothing to do with that.”
“That’s what you say.”
“Enough.”
Kael’s voice instantly cut through the sharp conversation.
Everyone fell silent as Kael slowly placed his glass on the table.
“Eat.”
His gaze shifted from Gretel to Amaris.
“We need to attend the attacker’s trial in a few minutes.”
No one argued after that.
Dinner continued in an awkward silence that felt incredibly uncomfortable for Amaris.
She barely touched her food.
Gretel, on the other hand, seemed to enjoy the tension she had caused far too much.
Once dinner was over, everyone began standing up to head toward the great hall where the trial would take place.
But before entering, Amaris spoke.
“I’m going to get some air before we go in.”
Gretel let out a small amused laugh.
“How strange.”
Amaris glanced at her.
“What is?”
“That you suddenly don’t want to attend the trial.”
The comment was clearly intentional, and Amaris immediately felt irritation rise in her chest.
But she didn’t respond. She simply turned around and walked away from them.
As she headed toward the outer courtyard, she let out a frustrated breath.
“That woman just wants to make me lose my temper… and it’s working.”
She tried to calm herself by staring into the darkness surrounding the mansion, mixed with the glow of the lanterns.
But only a few minutes had passed when she suddenly heard screams coming from inside the mansion.
The massive doors burst open violently.
Everyone began rushing outside, and Amaris frowned in confusion.
“What’s happening?”
Then she heard the panicked voice of one of the warriors.
“The prisoner escaped!”
Amaris’s heart immediately began racing.
Everything happened too fast. A hand suddenly grabbed her roughly from behind.
Amaris let out a muffled scream as she was violently dragged into the darkness of the forest.
“Let me go!”
The man was breathing heavily as he dragged her through the trees.
And when Amaris finally managed to see him beneath the moonlight… terror ran through her entire body.
It was the attacker. His eyes were completely out of control.
“You’re going to be my lucky charm to get out of this,” he growled.
Amaris immediately began struggling desperately.
“Let me go!”
But the man released her for barely a second, and Amaris took the opportunity to run.
She ran as fast as she could through the dark forest.
Branches struck her face, and her breathing started to break apart.
But it didn’t matter, because within seconds… he caught up to her again.
He grabbed her harshly by the arm and forced her to stop.
“No matter how much you run… you’re never getting anywhere.”
Amaris tried to pull free, breathing heavily.
“Let me go… I haven’t done anything to you.”
The man let out a rough laugh.
“No. But thanks to you, I’m getting out of this mess.”
Amaris struggled again while voices began echoing faintly in the distance.
“Amaris!”
“Luna Amaris!”
Her heart pounded even faster.
But the attacker violently covered her mouth and dragged her behind several trees.
“Stay still.”
Amaris felt fear spreading through her entire body.
The voices were getting closer. Kael was searching for her too.
But the attacker didn’t move. They remained hidden for a long time in the darkness of the forest.
Until the man started looking at her in a way that made Amaris’s entire body tense completely.
“On second thought… maybe we can have a little fun before this ends.”
Amaris immediately felt nauseous.
“Don’t you dare put your hands on me.”
The man smiled.
“And who’s going to stop me?” he asked while looking around.
Amaris lifted her chin bravely, even though fear was consuming her inside.
“Kael will kill you just for touching what belongs to him.”
That made the attacker burst into laughter.
Then he leaned closer to her neck and slowly inhaled the scent of her hair.
“Then I guess we shouldn’t waste any time.”
For the first time, Amaris felt real terror.
But just as the man grabbed her arm again to drag her away…
the voices suddenly began getting far too close, and the attacker cursed under his breath.
A few seconds later, he stepped out of the forest while dragging her with him directly toward Crimson Moon.
Everyone immediately turned to look when they appeared.
Chaos spread instantly. Kael stood at the front beside Aldo, Gretel, and several warriors.
And the moment he saw the attacker’s hand gripping Amaris…
his eyes changed completely.
“Let her go,” Kael growled.
