In less than an hour, they arrived at the great mansion.
“I’ll take my mother to one of the rooms,” Amaris said as soon as they stepped out of the car.
As they entered the room, Sabrina sat down on the bed, watching her daughter carefully.
The room they had prepared for her inside the mansion was enormous and warm, yet the exhaustion from everything that had happened in Silverstream was still visible on her face.
Amaris slowly adjusted the blanket over her mother’s legs.
“You should try to get some rest.”
Sabrina gave her a faint smile as she looked at her.
“First, I want to tell you something.”
Amaris lifted her gaze toward her.
“What is it?”
Sabrina hesitated for a few seconds before speaking.
“Kael seems very interested in you.”
Amaris immediately let out a small incredulous laugh.
“Mom…”
“I’m serious.”
Amaris shook her head as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
“I don’t believe that. All of this started because of an agreement between packs, nothing more.”
Sabrina watched her silently for a few seconds.
“Maybe that’s how it started… but I don’t think it’s just that anymore.”
Amaris lowered her gaze slightly. Her mother’s words made too many memories rush through her mind at once.
The way Kael protected her even while distrusting her.
How he destroyed the attacker the moment he saw him holding her.
How he helped Silverstream without hesitating for even a second.
But then she also remembered his words.
“I will never love anyone again.”
“Kael still loves his former Luna,” she finally said softly. “And I don’t think he’ll ever stop loving her.”
Sabrina sighed, though there was still a smile on her face.
“Maybe. But I saw the way he looks at you.”
Amaris looked up again.
“Mom…”
“Just give it time.”
At last, Amaris smiled faintly and leaned down to kiss her mother’s forehead.
“Get some rest, Mom. We’ll keep talking tomorrow.”
Sabrina gently caressed her daughter’s hand before answering.
“Good night, Amaris.”
“Good night, Mom.”
Amaris quietly left the room and carefully closed the door behind her.
The hallway was much quieter at that hour of the night.
She walked toward the bedroom she shared with Kael, but when she entered, she realized he wasn’t there.
She frowned slightly, then walked back out and headed downstairs to the first floor of the mansion.
One of the maids was arranging candles near the sitting room, and Amaris approached her.
“Excuse me… have you seen Alpha Kael?”
The young woman immediately lowered her head respectfully.
“Yes, Luna Amaris. He’s in the study with Mr. Aldo.”
“Thank you.”
The maid bowed respectfully, and Amaris began walking toward the study.
But just as she was about to knock on the door, another maid hurried down the hallway.
“Luna Amaris!”
She turned around, noticing the elegant envelope in the young woman’s hands.
“I’m sorry… this letter arrived for Alpha Kael. I was supposed to deliver it to him, but he wasn’t here when the messenger arrived.”
Amaris looked at the envelope for a few seconds.
“I can give it to him. I was just about to speak with him anyway.”
The maid smiled with relief and handed her the letter.
“Thank you, Luna Amaris.”
Then she quickly walked away.
Amaris held the envelope in her hands while absentmindedly staring at the elegant handwriting across it.
But then her eyes stopped on a name.
Belilah.
Her heart gave a small jolt inside her chest.
Her breathing slowed slightly as she looked at the envelope again.
And without fully understanding why… she stopped looking at the study door.
Instead of going inside, she slowly turned around and walked back toward the bedroom.
Once inside, she carefully closed the door.
Then she looked at the envelope again, and curiosity finally got the better of her.
Amaris slowly opened the letter and began to read.
“Kael…
I am so sorry for failing you.
I know no words will ever erase the damage I caused, but I need you to hear my truth at least once.
I wasn’t thinking clearly back then, and I’ve lived with regret ever since.
I love you, and I know you still love me too.
More than anyone, you know that when an Alpha chooses his Luna… it’s forever.
We swore to love each other for eternity, and I’m certain the love in your heart for me never disappeared.
I’m only asking for one chance to explain everything that happened. Let me see you. Let me show you how deeply sorry I am.
Belilah.”
Amaris felt a strange emptiness inside her chest as she finished reading.
Slowly, she lowered the letter.
“If Kael sees this…” she whispered.
She knew perfectly well what would happen.
Kael would go after Belilah without hesitation.
Because no matter how many things he denied… he still loved her.
Amaris closed her eyes for a second, trying to ignore the bitter feeling spreading inside her.
Then she looked at the letter once more and made a decision.
She quickly folded it and hid it inside one of the drawers of the nearby table.
At that exact moment, the bedroom door opened.
Amaris startled slightly as Kael entered the room, watching her carefully.
“One of the maids said you were looking for me.”
Amaris immediately tried to stay calm.
“Yes… I wanted to thank you for what you’re doing for my parents and for Silverstream.”
Kael closed the door behind him.
“I did it because it was the right thing to do.”
His voice was still serious and calm, but after reading that letter, everything suddenly felt different to Amaris.
She watched him silently for a few seconds, and before thinking too much about it, she walked toward him and hugged him unexpectedly.
Kael went completely still.
His hands remained suspended in the air for a few seconds, clearly surprised by the gesture.
Amaris rested her face against his chest and closed her eyes.
For a moment, she thought he would simply pull away.
But then, slowly… Kael finally wrapped his arms around her.
