Episode 8

(Sarah is brought into the chamber by a palace messenger. He bows and leaves)

Sarah: (Bowing to the King and Queen, as a sign of respect) You sent for me, your Highness.

Queen Mi-Hee: (Stunned) You don't speak Korean?!

Sarah: Yes.

Queen Mi-Hee: (To the King, in Korean) She is really a good-for-nothing!

(All these while, King Ji-Ho have been glaring at Sarah)

King Ji-Ho: So you are the chipmunk who intend to marry my son? Huh?

(Sarah shivers at the tone of his voice and facial expression. She felt like collapsing to the floor, but wouldn't that be a stupid thing to do?)

Sarah: (King Ji-Ho's voice suddenly jolts her back to her senses)

King Ji-Ho: (Rises up, and stands in front of her) Now tell me, what do you think of yourself?! Just who do you think you are?! Do you think you deserve Do-Yun?

Sarah: (She speaks under her breath) I know that I do not deserve him...

Queen Mi-Hee: (Surprised) You do? If you do, why would you be frolicking around him?

(Sarah couldn't respond)

King Ji-Ho: Now that you know you don't deserve him; what then is your relationship with him?!

Sarah: We are engaged, your Highness...

(That sounded like a huge slap to King Ji-Ho's face)

King Ji-Ho: What?! Do I hear you say engaged?!

(Sarah was totally speechless)

King Ji-Ho: (Even more angry) It is an insult to the Nobles to be silent when you are asked a question...

Sarah: (A tear trickling down her face) Yes, we are engaged...

King Ji-Ho: And who gave you the permission?! Who approved of your engagement?!

Sarah: Nobody... (Still shaking)

Queen Mi-Hee: And you went ahead?! You went ahead, without the permission of both parents?! Or didn't you think Do-Yun had parents? Did you care to inquire about their consent? Did you?!

Sarah: I did...(She said with a shaky voice) I asked Do-Yun want his parents thought about us...

Queen Mi-Hee: And what did he say?

Sarah: (Crying) He didn't give me a definite answer...

Queen Mi-Hee: What do you mean by that? No, can you hear yourself speak?!

King Ji-Ho: (Continues) Now, look here and listen attentively, you jerk!

We never approved of you, having anything to do with each other... Talk more of being engaged!

Sarah: But to be honest, your Highness... (She pauses, fearing if she should say it or not) Do-Yun and I are deeply in love with each other...

King Ji-Ho: (Enraged) How dare you utter such rubbish with your mouth?! What do you know about love?! A person like you cannot be loved... You have no identity; you are completely worthless! You are total misfit for this noble family!

(Sarah couldn't bear these abuses anymore, and broke down into bitter sobs.)

King Ji-Ho: I thought of banishing from this Province, but then we decided that that was too harsh... So, from now henceforth, you are hereby forbidden from seeing Prince Do-Yun, or having anything to do with him!
