The deal he never wanted
Sienna pushed the front door open and dropped her backpack beside the couch.
“I am home.” She took off her shoes and let out a tired breath.
Her uncle looked up from the television.“You are back already?” He smiled as he picked up the remote.
Sienna laughed softly.“You will not believe what happened today.” She shook her head as she walked into the living room.
Her uncle frowned."What happened?” He sat up and looked at her.
“I was only supposed to drop off the medical kit.” She placed both hands on her hips.
He nodded."I know.” He looked at her with confusion.
“Now I am the new medical trainer for the Ravens hockey team.” She gave him a nervous smile.
His eyes widened with suprise “You are what?” He almost stood up from the couch.
Sienna nodded. “I did not expect it either.” She shrugged with a small smile.
Her uncle stayed quiet for a moment.“That is… unexpected.” He rubbed his chin as he looked at her.
Sienna’s smile slowly disappeared.“There is something else.” She sat beside him and looked at the floor.
He turned to face her."What is it?” He frowned with concern.
“Today I met Noah Carter.” She folded her hands together.
Her uncle’s face changed. "I see.” He said and looked away.
“When everyone heard my last name, everything changed.” She looked at him carefully.
He stayed silent.“The coach told me my father ended Noah’s father’s hockey career.” She searched his face for an answer.
Her uncle sighed. "So he told you.” He rubbed the back of his neck.
Sienna moved closer.“What really happened?” She looked at him hopefully.
He shook his head."I do not know enough to answer that.” He avoided her eyes.
She frowned.“You are lying.” She crossed her arms.
“I am not.” He forced a weak smile.
“You know something.” She kept staring at him.
“Forget about it, Sienna.” He stood up and walked toward the kitchen.
She watched him leave, she knew he was hiding something.
A few minutes later, Sienna walked into her bedroom.
She closed the door behind her, her eyes landed on a picture frame sitting on her desk.
It was the last picture she had with her parents before the accident.
Three years had passed since they died in a car crash, she picked up the frame and ran her fingers over the glass.
“I wish you were here.” She whispered as tears filled her eyes.
If her parents were alive, she could have asked them the truth.
Now there was no one left to ask.
She placed the picture back on the desk and wiped her eyes.
No matter how long it took…
She would find out what really happened between her father and Noah’s father.
The next morning, Sienna woke up before her alarm. She got dressed, ate breakfast with her uncle, and left for school.
As soon as she walked through the front gate, something felt wrong, the students stopped talking when they saw her, some looked at her, some whispered, while held up their phones.
Sienna frowned.“What is going on?” She looked around in confusion but no one answered.
She took another step.
Suddenly, someone grabbed her wrist.
Before she could react, she was pulled into an empty hallway.
Her back hit a locker, she looked up and saw that Noah was standing in front of her.
His face was filled with anger.
“What are you doing?” She pushed against the locker with both hands.
Noah ignored her, he took out his phone and held it in front of her face.“Explain this.” He tightened his grip on the phone as his jaw clenched.
Sienna looked at the screen, it was a video from yesterday’s game. The moment they crashed into each other had been edited, the angle made it look like they kissed.
The caption read:The Ravens captain has a secret girlfriend.
Her eyes widened.“This is fake.” She shook her head quickly.
"You expect me to believe that?” He narrowed his eyes as he took one step closer.
"I did not make this video.” She held his gaze and kept her voice calm.
“Then who did?” He folded his arms across his chest.
“I do not know.” She spread her hands in frustration.
"You are the only new person around me.” He stared at her without blinking.
“And you think that makes me guilty?” She frowned as anger rose inside her.
“It is too much of a coincidence.” He pointed the phone toward her.
"I have known you for less than one day.” She shook her head in disbelief.
“That is your problem, not mine.” He looked at her with cold eyes.
Before Sienna could answer, another voice stopped them.
“Both of you. My office. Right now.” Coach Miller looked at them with a serious expression.
Neither of them argued, they followed him in silence.
A few minutes later, they entered Coach Miller’s office, he closed the door behind them.
Coach placed his phone on the desk.“The video is spreading fast.” He rubbed his forehead with one hand.
“We can tell everyone it is edited.” Sienna looked at him hopefully.
“It is not that simple.” Coach sighed as he leaned against his desk.
“It is the truth.” She frowned as she folded her arms.
“People on the internet do not always care about the truth.” Coach shook his head slowly.
Noah looked at Coach"So what do we do?” He clenched his fists by his sides.
Coach looked at both of them before speaking. “If people find out this video is fake, reporters will start asking questions.” He folded his arms across his chest.
“They will dig into the past.” He looked at Noah with concern.
"They will find out about our fathers.” Noah’s jaw tightened.
Coach nodded In affirmation." That could hurt your chances of playing professional hockey one day.” He let out a slow breath.
The office became quiet.
After a long moment, Coach looked at both of them. “There is only one way to stop this from becoming a bigger scandal.” He looked from Noah to Sienna.
“What way?” Noah frowned as he took a step forward.
Coach looked at them with a serious face“You two need to pretend you are dating.” He kept his eyes on both of them.
Sienna’s mouth fell open.“What?” She stared at him in shock.
“No way.” Noah shook his head immediately.
“It is the only plan that protects both of you for now.” Coach spoke calmly as he rested both hands on his desk. " You both need to fake date."
