LORI "Oh my god, right there..." She giggled. Moaned again. "F-f**k, harder, please. Don't stop. You feel so f*****g good..." My brain blanked. I couldn't breathe. "Yes, yes! Valkyrie, don't stop, harder- f**k, yes! You're so deep..." He growled something, his hips slamming into her, making the bed creak. "You like that? You love being f****d like this, don't you? I always knew you were a dirty slut." She moaned louder. "Yes! Yes, I love it! Don't stop, please-" "I knew you'd be better than her," he grunted, "So tight, so wet. f**k, you're perfect..." That broke me. My body started shaking, and I didn;t even realise the tears were already pouring down my cheeks. My heart was in pieces. I remembered the things he'd said to me just yesterday. That he loved me. That he could wait. That I was special. He lied. Everything was a lie. A choked noise left my throat. It turned into a scream. "VALKYRIE! MABEL!" Both their heads snapped toward me. Mabel gasped. Her eyes went wide with shock as she pulled the sheets up to cover her nakedness. "Lori- oh my god!" Val cursed and jumped off her, scrambling to grab his jeans. "s**t! What the hell are you doing here?!" I stared at him, shaking. "What am I doing here? What the f**k are you doing?!" His face was so cold and hard. "Don't start this right now." "no. NO." I stepped inside and slammed the door shut behind me, voice shaking, my chest heaving. "How could you?! With my best friend?!" He pulled his pants and stood tall, looking annoyed. "Lori, stop. You weren't supposed to be here." "Answer me! How could you do this to me?!" He ran a hand through his hair. "Calm the hell down." "f**k you!" I screamed. "You lied to me! You said I was special! You..." My voice broke. "You said you loved me!" He scoffed. "Yeah? And you never gave me anything back. You just kept playing little miss innocent. What the hell was I supposed to do?" My heart felt like it was splitting apart. "I wanted to take things slow," I whispered. "I wanted to wait. You said you were okay with that..." He laughed bitterly. I'd never seen him like this before, and it scared the wits out of me. "Of course I said that. What else was I gonna say to a poor-ass scholarship nerd who acts like she's too good for anyone to touch?" My mouth dropped open. The whole room spun. "What...?" I barely got the word out. "Did I stutter?" he asked, shrugging. "I wasted my time thinking you'd grow up. But guess what? Mabel didn't waste my time." She sat there, holding the blanket up to cover herself, looking like a damn puppy caught stealing cookies. But she didn't say anything. "You used me," I whispered. "You used me and you lied and now you're just... blaming me?" He folded his arms. "I didn't use you. I didn't want you. I just wanted to f**k, Lori. That's it... and you weren't giving it up." I couldn't even cry anymore now. The tears were still there, but everything else inside me was just... hollow. Dead. He took a step toward the door. "You're nothing to me, Lori," he added, like it meant nothing. "You were never anything. I never wanted you. You seriously thought I'd lower myself to date someone like you? You? With your hand-me-down clothes and holier-than-thou, virgin attitude?" It didn't feel real. This had to be a nightmare. I looked at Mabel. My best friend. My ride-or-die. She couldn't even look at me. "Look at me," I said, my voice cracking. "Mabel, look at me!" "Don't yell," she whispered. "Please, it's not that big of a deal." I laughed. "Not that big a-are you f*****g kidding me?" She winced. "Jeez! Everyone cheats. You're being dramatic. Stop acting like you're special or something." Before I could scream again, the door was pushed open. I turned to see a small crowd gathered outside the door- some students and a couple of Valkyrie's dumb football friends. Everyone looked shocked. A few were recording with their phones. "Wow..." someone muttered. "This is insane." Valkyrie ran his hand down his face like I was the problem. "Great," he muttered. "Now, the whole school knows." He started walking towards the door to leave, but I stepped in front of him, blocking his path. "No," I was almost pleading. "Tell me you didn't mean what you said to me earlier. Take those words back please." His eyes met mine. And for a second, I saw something there. But it was gone before I could grab it. He leaned in close. "I never wanted you, Lori. Ever. You're not even my type. I mean, come on... you actually thought I'd stoop low enough to date a charity case like you? You're beyond embarrassing." Gasps of shock erupted from behind. I stepped back like he'd slapped me. He tried to leave again, and out of desperation, I grabbed his arm. I couldn't let this end like this. "Please, don't do this. You don't mean it. I know you don't-" Before I was done, he shoved me back, hard. I stumbled, falling right into someone's arms. Then he walked out of the room and went downstairs. I looked up to see Jason. "Hey," he said, steadying me. "It's okay." I collapsed into his chest, crying so hard I couldn't breathe. He looked around and waved the other people away. "Get out of here y'all. Show's over." The crowd broke up slowly, mumbling. He helped me out of the room. I didn't know how I walked. I felt like a ghost, like a giant walking on the limbs of an insect. Shaky. Dead inside. When we got to the bathroom, he handed me some tissues and closed the door behind us. I wiped my face, but the tears wouldn't stop. I couldn't even look at myself in the mirror. I barely recognised the girl staring back. "Hey," he said gently, crouching beside me. "I know that hurt. Like... a lot. But things like this are part of relationships sometimes. You should take a little time. Let things cool off. Then maybe talk to him." I stared at him, teeth chattering.I nodded slowly, even though I didn't believe a single word. He gave me a soft smile. "Just stay a little longer, okay? You're not in the right state of mind right now-" "Excuse me? N- not in the right state of mind?... You think I'm crazy? You think it's all my fault?" He backed up slightly. "That's not what I meant." "Okay." I muttered, pushing past him. "Lori- wait-" I did not. I stormed out of the bathroom, out of the house, out of the whole disgusting nightmare. I was done. So done.
