“Sir, there was a call from Miss Jones. She asked you to come to the Museum or in her words, she’ll shove a painting up your……..”
“Thank you for the message, Jeremy. I’ll go once I’m done with this document” he raised his hand to immediately stop him.
“I’ll have them prepare the car and clear your schedule today.”
“I appreciate it.”
Once Jeremy was gone, Melvin sighed. He thought of inviting Bella again that night so he could hasten the courtship process and please everyone. However, if he ignored Rhea, she was fully capable of shoving a painting up his a**. Shivering when he remembered when she wanted to shove something into his body, he quickly finished going through the document.
He walked out when he was done, catching Jeremy’s attention. His office was right beside Melvin’s so he could see him when he came out.
“The car is ready sir.”
“I’ll be back later.”
Melin went down to the parking lot where his driver was available to take him to the museum. He had to be ushered in by a private entrance because he suddenly received a text message from Rhea, a single angry face emoji. He hurried up to where she was while he wondered just what had happened.
“If you took any longer, I would’ve grown old!”
“I came as fast as I could. It’s not like I can fly!”
“Why don’t you learn how to?!”
“It’s impossible!”
Rhea and Melvin were closest in age and resemblance. Rhea’s head was kept short, just a bit longer than Melvin’s. If she wore a suit, the two would look like twins standing together. However, if you pointed out that fact, you would be greeted with a look so fierce, that you’d think you were on death row.
Melvin sighed and decided to make peace first. It was hard to talk to her when she was already angry.
“What happened?”
“Some i***t reporter bumped into me in the hall and some girl touched me!”
“........that’s all?”
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT’S ALL?!! DO YOU KNOW HOW IMPORTANT TODAY IS?!! DO YOU KNOW HOW EMBARRASSED I AM?!!!” She screeched. Melvin stepped back a little to protect his poor ears.
“If you were that embarrassed, you would be trending on social media already. Try to relax. You’re doing fine, Rhea. You’ve always done a wonderful job. Bellaham would not be this splendid without you.”
“You’re right. I shouldn’t be nervous…….”
Melvin had discovered the best way to deal with his sister; sweet-talking her. Once her ego was high enough, she could even go up and slap a president. He saw her do it once. Thankfully, he was the president of a foreign corporation.
“A beautiful lady like you needs the perfect gentleman to escort her to her stage. Would you do me the honors, dearest sister?”
“You’re a little late but you’ll do.”
With his sister’s arm linked to his, the two exited her office and walked into the exhibition hall which was still filling with guests. As the director, it was her duty to greet and welcome the foreign dignitaries and celebrities so she pulled Melvin along with her. There were a lot of people there and Melvin could already feel a migraine coming.
“I hear you’re finally settling down and considering a real relationship” she whispered as they walked.
“Of course, Collen told you” he whispered back, letting out a curse too.
“Thanks for taking one for the team, little brother. Your sacrifice is commendable. Truly appreciate it.”
“Don’t rub it in. They’re going to get on your case too.”
“With you being like this? Impossible. I’ll give it a few years at best.”
The siblings had mastered the ability to communicate without making their lips move while they were in public spaces so from afar, it was hard to tell they were having a conversation. There was also a big smile on their faces.
“Introduce me to this girl when you have the time……Mr. Delvaro! So nice to see you here. I was beginning to think you wouldn’t make it” his sister’s snarky attitude took a 180 as she began to smile heartily and chat with her guests. Rhea’s ability to charm people should never be underestimated.
Melvin wasn’t interested in entertaining her crowd like she was. He picked a glass of champagne and took a sip, scanning the exhibition hall. The press was behind a red ribbon, only able to see the paintings from there. His eyes lingered on the press because of what his sister had said. It was not like he would immediately find the one who bumped into his sister that easily. However, he finally noticed her when he was going for the second glass of champagne. She looked unlike what he expected; dressed in an expensive dress and laughing freely with the people around her.
“Bella?”
He made his way out of the crowd of elites and began to walk to where she stood. At that time, Bella didn’t know he was walking over to their side as she was desperately trying to forget they were almost in trouble with their host.
“Where are you going?” a manicured hand secured itself around Melvin’s wrist. The owner of this hand was none other than Rhea herself.
“The press?”
“Why are you going there? You’re supposed to be here with me!”
“The woman you asked me to introduce to you, she’s here.”
“She works for the press? Wow, is there nobody you haven’t slept with? Waiting for you to sleep with the queen and call it a day”.
“I………haven’t slept with her.”
“Hmm? How is that possible?! Since when did you start celibacy?”
“A few days ago. Want to go meet her?”
“These guys are getting annoying, so sure.”
The two departed in a more low-key manner than they arrived. Even though it was lowkey, the two drew attention as they walked. Melvin wasn’t voted most handsome man once for nothing and Rhea, she was the kind who would make your breath seize, a true showstopper belle. However, this time, she was making hearts stop differently.
“Peyton, I thought you said she wasn’t angry about it. If we get kicked out of the museum by the director, we would never be able to enter again. Do something!” Dana urged, pinching Peyton over and over again. The man sighed and finally decided to go to where the press was separated from the others.
Bella froze like a deer in headlights when she saw Melvin approaching with his sister. Various thoughts filled her head and it took all her willpower not to break down crying right there and then. As the two approached, it seemed like the world slowed down.
