“The sales went up this time sir thanks to the advertisement and sales department. The managing directors suggested a raise and they want your approval here.”
“Is that so? Let me inspect the sales chart.”
“Yes sir.”
She dropped the document in front of him, her breasts spilling from her clothes. She had a great body too but she wasn’t blonde nor did she have green eyes. It was useless. Melvin has never hooked up with women who didn’t have these specifications.
“The chart looks completely normal. Why is this deserving of a raise? Are these managing directors playing with me?”
“I-I’ll send word to them.”
“No, call them all for a meeting right now. I can’t believe what I’m seeing.”
There was panic in the office. All the managing directors were suddenly summoned by the CEO right when there were talks for a raise. Rumors flew around, quietening when those involved walked by.
The conference room was soon filled with several high-ranking staffs. Melvin was seated at the head of the table, his gaze darkening by the minute.
“Can someone explain to me what the hell this is?”
“The sales dipped this month and we managed to bring it back on track” The Managing Director of the Sales Department replied.
“Managed? This is not something you should manage to do. This is your f*****g jobs! It’s your fault if it’s not done right!”
“Sales and advertisement were particularly difficult and expensive this month. We were overreaching and overworking our staff. We put forward this request because we think our staff deserve some form of compensation.”
“Director Shirley, we are not running a charity here! If we give out this raise, the company would be running at a loss. At most, we give out a bonus! How is it that a bunch of adults think like high school children?!”
“Sir, I want you to put yourselves in the shoes of the Employees. Think of this like an investment. If we give them incentives, they’ll work harder, bringing in more profit.”
“So we keep giving until the company goes under?!”
“No sir. The retired CEO did something like this as well and the company is still strong. We want you to think about this well.”
These old bastards! They’re comparing me to my father! I’ll get rid of all of you soon! Think about the employees my foot! You just want to pocket the money, don’t you?!
“I am not my father and I will not watch as you drag this company to the ground!”
“Sir, don’t you think you’re being a little illogical? We are only thinking about the growth of the company and you say we want to drag the company to the ground? To accuse us, we that have worked here for a long time, like this, it’s really unfair. This your temper should be handled so it won’t affect your professional life. Maybe you should think about getting someone permanently at your side to keep you calm.”
Oh, so that was your end game! f*****g marriage! These old pests....
“Thank you Director Ansley but I can handle my temper just fine. I’m not approving this raise. Rather, I will cut salaries and bonuses if the sales don’t double between now and next month. Have a good day, gentlemen!”
He slammed the door on his way out, storming into his office. He slammed the door again, scaring the secretaries that worked around him. Jeremy only took one look and went back to work.
Melvin sighed and spun around in his chair. Ever since he took over, The Directors haven’t made it easy for him. They all seemed to think he would run the business to the ground so they were trying to get their cut and abscond before he brought them down with him. The very thought of it made him grind his teeth in anger.
He opened his laptop to work again when his phone vibrated in his pocket. Picking it up, he saw it was a text from Bella.
[Wanna have lunch together?]
His anger almost totally evaporated. He sent her a quick [Sure] and shut his laptop, walking out of the office immediately. He got into his car and drove to her office. He got there in time luckily before she boarded a taxi.
“Melvin, hi. Your eyebrows.”
“What’s wrong with them?”
“They’re a bit furrowed. Is something wrong? Did I text you at a bad time?”
“No. Come with me for a sec.”
He pulled her into the car with him, locking the door as soon as they were safely inside. He grabbed her face and roughly kissed her, seizing every chance she had at breathing. It was a little hard for her at first but she went with his whims, kissing back as best as she could. She could feel his anger through the kiss and could only ask what had happened after.
Once he pulled away, she breathed heavily, pulling her head back to catch her breath. He did too, staring at his swollen lips in the mirror.
“..... I’m sorry.”
It felt strange. Melvin had never had to apologize for a kiss before.
“It’s okay. Can you tell me what happened?”
“I....was angered at work today. Some people tried to cheat me and I lashed out at them. It wasn’t the most logical thing to do and now I’m upset at myself” he sighed, resting his head on the steering wheel.
“Oh, that sounds very exhausting. You don’t need to blame yourself when you did nothing wrong. Yeah, lashing out at work seems immature but you’re human before you’re a CEO. I think you should cut yourself some slack.”
“......really?”
“Yeah. You know, I have the perfect place to go for lunch today. I think you’d find it relaxing.”
“If you say so. Give me the location.”
“I will but first of all, do you have any allergies?”
“I’m only allergic to peanuts, why?”
“That’s great! It’s located at XXX street, not too far from here. Let’s go!” She smiled brightly. His heart skipped a beat when he saw her genuine smile. He didn’t know it yet but she would come to be his happy place.
