I knew something had happened the moment Cassian returned from his father's office. I saw him cross the dining room while I cleared the last dishes from breakfast. He couldn't come to me with Maris nearby, but the look he gave me was enough. He had told Lucan about us.
Nyra moved closer inside me as Cassian disappeared toward the hall. I wanted to follow him and find out what Lucan had said. Instead, I carried the dishes into the kitchen and continued working. I didn't have to wait long for an answer.
Maris entered a few minutes later and stopped beside the table. "Alpha Lucan wants you in his office." She looked at me as if she already suspected why. "Now."
I wiped my hands before leaving the kitchen. Each step toward Lucan's office reminded me of the warning he'd given me day
