Chapter 9: Refined Sense

1109 Words
After the whole thing, Eilbart agreed to train me but I need to develop my senses as for now… it wasn’t good enough and for that I couldn’t proceed to the next part of the training.  Thus I then repeat this same training over and over again. I don't know how many days it takes for me to make my senses sharpen enough but everyday… I did notice the sounds were becoming much more clearer, with that I can’t afford to give up.  Eilbart also mentioned to me while we’re on the training, the time we had would affect our senses as well. That’s why we could hear the sound from afar. Not many people know about this as people always thought that it just affects one strength.  Thus making the bow user or long ranged weapon less in this world as people prefer to use swords or something like that.  With that I realized that the majority of the people in the tower use a melee weapon and wielding a long ranged weapon would prove to be beneficial to me.  …  Today was the same, as I was used to it. My body knows when it is time for me to wake up in the morning, there’s no need for Eilbart to do that anymore. I take up my bow and arrows and head out from the hut, knowing that Eilbart was already waiting for me in the forest.  As I went further into the forest, I hoped this was the day for me to finally master my own senses. Because if not I would be stuck doing this kind of training all over again and I don’t want to repeat this again.  I had gotten quite fed up of doing this sort of thing, as I know I’m well prepared to take this training into the next step.  “Good, you’re here early…” Eilbart says as he sees me approaching him. “Let’s hope that you could pass this day or you will be doing this tomorrow again.”  “I’m feeling quite lucky today so I am sure that I will pass…”  “That’s a nice enthusiasm you had… let’s see whether you're indeed lucky.”  With that, I take my bow out and steadily position myself. Back then I needed to close my eyes just to be able to hear the sound but after doing this for a few times. I could say that I had managed to do this without that, that also means that my senses are much sharper than before.  I then release the string of the bow and shoot it…  *Chak!*  That sound! Does that mean I finally got a hit on that monster? Eilbart claps his hand as he looks at me with a smile on his face. “You did it, I guess it was really your lucky day.”  It’s hard for me to believe it but I finally passed it.  “But do not be so happy Eion, this was just the first training… there’s a lot of tough training after this.”  “I already expected that so bring it on… I know I could pass the next training without any problem.”  “Hahaha! That’s good then, so let’s see how you handle the monsters that are coming to you then.” Eilbart says that towards me.  “What-”  Before I could finish, I heard a few footsteps coming over here. It didn't sound like something human would make as it was definitely a monster's footsteps.  Does that mean the second part of the training has already begun… s**t I don’t have time to prepare much. Judging from the sound of the footsteps, the monster was a huge one. But I wonder why it was coming over here?  I quickly take my bow and arrow and prepare to shoot at the monster and take it down. As I know I would be in a lot of trouble if the monsters were in my range to attack. If only I brought my sword along with me, I surely could handle it…  … I had shot ten continuous arrows and yet the monsters still wouldn’t stop, thus meaning it was still alive.  “Is this monster really that strong?”  “It was for your level… let me give you a hint, if you can shoot it right in the eyes… It would surely kill the monster but here is a warning, if you fail… just prepare yourself as you wouldn’t have any chance to release your arrow after tha.”  “What!? How can I shoot into the monster's eyes? All the things that I could sense were the monster's position… there’s no way I could do that.”  “Are you giving up now? I thought you said earlier that you would pass the next training without a problem.”  I did say that… Dang it, Eilbart was right.  Let's just hope that my senses will improve this time or that I will surely die. I take a deep breath and align my bow towards the monster position. I still had my doubts whether I could do it or not… but after all that training. I’m sure that I will manage it.  Judging from the sound the monster made, I knew it was a large monster. So the eyes must be slightly higher…  As I was about to shoot, I realized something… Because what I was shooting was a monster, its eyes wouldn’t be something that I could easily tell where it was. The monster was completely different from us.  “Do not use your hearing sense now… it’s pretty useless now. Use your sight!” Eilbart says.  “My sight? How can I do that… the monster was clearly far from here.”  “That’s for you to figure it out on your own.” Eilbart simply said that towards me.  If Eilbart says that, there’s nothing I could do as he wouldn’t tell me anything at all. He really intended to make me learn for myself and I would do that… I proved to him that I could do it without his help at all.
