We made the two hour drive in an hour and half. We had divided ourselves into four vehicles, and were closing in on the location. “That’s it. Right there.” I glared through the windshield at the derelict house. The lawn had grown up and was strewn with litter. The front porch was rotted and partially collapsed. A big NO TRESPASSING sign was nailed to the front door, and most of the windows had been smashed out. It was squatting in a run-down neighborhood of similar old houses in various states of disrepair and neglect. I could feel the magnetic pull of my mate from inside that house.
