“Hey Jax wait up for a second,” I called out, my voice coming out a little breathless as I hurried down the hallway after him, clutching my backpack strap tight with one hand, the heavy books inside making it dig into my shoulder.
The school was almost empty this late, the fluorescent lights buzzing overhead in the quiet corridors, most students long gone after the last bell, leaving just a few stragglers like me who stayed for study hall.
