Chapter 5

802 Words
I woke up a start and sighed in relief that it was only a dream, the sweat still dripping from my forehead as I panted before standing up and walking into the dining room. I sighed again as I sat on one of the chairs and raised a cup of ale to me lips, the liquid easily sliding down my throat and quickly quenching my thirst and making my senses slightly numb as the crickets sang creating a calming night song that would rock anyone off to sleep in a matter of minutes. It may have been just a dream but it seemed so real..... ''Another bad dream ? '' A familiar male voice interrupted the silence. Ever since the.......incident.....my head had been plagued with painful memories that often kept me up at night........ I lowered the mug and turned my head to the entrance as Killer walked in and sat opposite me with a mug of ale in his hands, he raised his mug to his lips as he took a sip with his eyes never leaving my face. His eyes showed that he already knew the answer.... Even though Killer was a fierce assassin he was an even fiercer friend, his face always held a comforting smile and his sharp green eyes were able to pick up the slightest change in body language, so of course he was the very first person that would come to mind when we had a prisoner that needed to be interrogated. He always was the strongest and the smile on his face never seemed to falter..... ''Yeah, as always'' I said in a sad tone as I once again raised the mug to my lips ''Was it about your family again? '' He asked quietly, out of all the assassins in the guild Killer was the only one that knew about my past and he was always so gentle with the subject. I only nodded to answer him and he smiled again before putting his hand on my shoulder in an attempt to comfort me. He knew that I didn't want people to see me in this kind of position....as assassins, if you show weakness....your dead.... ''Well go read that book we found and then try again'' he smiled before standing up and walking out I smiled and finished the liquid before walking into my bedroom and sitting on my bed with my favorite book, it was a tale of a women whom lead a great army into battle on the back of a powerful and ferocious dragon, the women was known throughout history as being powerful –though others would think this was a lie because of her gender- and the dragon was known for being a symbol of power and freedom. Whilst reading the tale for what I thought was the 100th time –though I didn't mind at all- my hand drifted to my necklace and firmly held onto the pendent , my mother used to tell me that the pendant would keep me safe and warn me if I was ever in any danger. As a child I always believed her......but now......I knew that it was only a story she would tell me in order to help me sleep at night...... The dragon in the story was named Drakuna , meaning all powerful one. The stories tell how his skin was as red as fire, his teeth and claws as sharp as arrow heads and his eyes were so yellow that gold seemed rusted when compared to them. As legend goes he was feared not only because of his power but his bravery and fearlessness in combat , the legend also tells of he would use his size to manipulate his enemies to surrender or flee from a battle. His rider was a women whom had long silver hair that –out of habit- was always platted into a long braid during combat, her eyes were so icy blue that it was said that they could freeze the hearts of her enemies, she had a thin frame that easily slid into any item of clothing, making it easy for her to do uncover missions. Although both rider and dragon were amazing on their own and even more so together, they had such a strong bond that it is said, they were able to understand each other by just a small movement of their bodies. Truly amazing.........a bond between man and beast that was that strong deserves to become legend........ The thought of how these 2 made such a difference in society made me smile, it just goes to show that even though the world is full of negative and unjust people, there are those who are able to shine like stars and fill the hearts of the people with hope.
