(The Master P.O.V.)
After a long moment I asked O’Flynne:
“Do you like her flavor?”
“Yes, I do. It is very different from what I have tasted over the years.” He answered.
I smiled to myself I knew what he meant, the taste of a truly satisfying Fairy was not like anything one had eaten before. I knew from her flavor that she was a Royal Fairy, they were rare to have let a lone have as a feeder the markets always sold possible Royal Fairies quickly to prevent theft. I had never used the blood reading ability on her blood, I respected her blood line to much to read her blood with out her permission, or her knowledge of it being done. We both sat in silence and enjoyed her flavor, I enjoyed the company and the flavor it had been a long time since I had eaten with another Vampire. I had noticed his eyes glowing when he drank her blood I knew that line of Vampires, they were very powerful, as well as different in someways to the normal Vampire. That line had it own version of Mates, I wondered if the High Order knew he had not found his and sent him on this journey to find her. If that was the case then she was his Mate and he would do anything to make sure that she was both safe and taken care of.
In all the time we had talked he had given me much information to about himself and the High Order, all of which was not overly surprising. I was sure that he had changed a great deal however there was still one question I had left, I hoped to have an answer before the night was done. As if on cue a servant knocked then came in she curtsy then spoke:
“My Lords, Kataya has been cleaned and her wounds treated and moved, as requested.”
“Thank you.” I said.
She curtsied, turned on her heel and left. I looked over to O’Flynne I could see it on his face he wanted to see her right then. If he knew where she was he probably would have left and gone straight to her room right then if he thought he could. So I asked:
“Would you like to see her?”
“Yes, I really would.” O’Flynne answered with no hesitation.
“Good, come let us go and see her.” I said.
I put my glass down after finishing the last little bit in it, stood up and left the Parlor. I was followed closely by a very pensive Young Vampire, he was so set on his task that I was sure he did not notice much around him. I could see it in his eyes he was captivated by her, I knew I would have answer to my question of his treatment of her soon. I took the stairs up to the second floor, I had made arrangements to have her in the room across from O’Flynne’s room. I knew that this little detail would not go unnoticed by him, I also knew that it would help calm him to know she was close by if there was any reason for alarm.
I opened the door and entered, the room was very dark due to the fact that Kataya was light sensitive. To help her acclimate to light again there was only one candle in the room on a table with various ointment jars. The Headmistress was there, she was at the table looking over the supplies making sure things were set out in the right order. Around her was a group of four servants she was whispering instructions to them. I could tell she was upset, of what was hard to tell. I walked straight over to where they were standing, she had noticed our presence and turned around to face us. O’Flynne followed close behind, this was a good sign he wanted to know how she was. I nodded to her and spoke in a low tone:
“How is she?’
“My Lord, she is very weak after we washed her, we were very gentle, she has not had a proper bath in weeks, anyways we put ointments on to help with the infection that was in several of the wounds. Every hour we give her a sip of cool broth. She has not woken up since we brought her here.” The Headmistress answered in whispered.
Now I knew what she was upset about, Marcus treatment of her as well as the condition she was in. She was a fiery woman, I knew that if I let her she would give Marcus a beating he would not soon forget. I however, had other plan for him, he would pay for this and he would pay dearly. O’Flynne then whispered and pointed at the bed:
“May I?”
She glanced at me then at him and said:
“Yes, My Lord, I am not sure if she will give much response.”
He smiled gently and whispered:
“That is alright. I know she is getting the best care.”
I was sure he knew this would confuse her but I had the feeling it was meant more for me than the Headmistress, she was surprised by this statement. I gave a gesture that she knew meant wait. We both stood there as we watched him quietly walk over to her bed. When he had disappeared through the drapes, I turned to the Headmistress and whispered:
“He is possibly going to being purchasing Kataya. Until I see his interaction with her awake I will be present. While he is here once I am satisfied I will inform you when he can come and go, as he pleases.”
“Yes, My Lord.” she said.
I knew she understood my level of concern with who bought my slaves, I also knew she would enforce anything I set out. I went to the foot of her bed and I found him sitting on the edge of the bed just staring at her. His look was not one of hunger or lust, or even cruel desire, but that of great concern for her well being. He ran his fingers across her face ever so gently, she was so still that if it were not for my Vampiric hearing I would have wondered is she was still alive. I could see it on his face that he wanted to do everything he could to help her get better, I let him sit there until the dawn approached. I then whispered:
“O’Flynne, I would like some assistance finding the extent of Marcus’ corruption. It will also help pass time until she is awake.”
“Of course, My Lord. Where would you like to begin?” O’Flynne replied in a whisper.
“His Office, come we shall start tomorrow night, for it is almost dawn.” I answered.
“Yes, My Lord. I will take my leave. Thank you. Is it possible to see her again tomorrow?” O’Flynne asked quite awkwardly.
“Yes, we can visit first thing before breakfast.” I whispered with a smile.
He smiled and quietly followed me out, he nodded to the servants still there in the room. When we entered the Hallway he stopped and turned to face m. his face was very serious, as if he wanted to say something before it was forgotten, he then spoke:
“My Lord, Thank you, for all that you have done already and will do to correct the situation that Marcus has made.”
“You are most welcome. I am glad that we have meet, O’Flynne. I will see you tomorrow.” I answered.
I then turned and began to walk away towards my apartment, I found myself smiling along the way. He really had changed, his very actions this evening proved that to a point. His appreciation his actions towards the staff. Even his answers about Marcus, he really was trying to accept this change. He even made it evident that he cared for Kataya, the first thing he asked for was her to be moved to a place to be taken care of properly. Then his actions just now his gentle actions his concern that is all in encompassing was beyond what I could have hoped for. This made the sale of Kataya much easier for me, I never considered sales unless the buyer actually cared for the person he was buying.
Along the way my thought turned to Marcus, something told me that my troubles with him were far from over. If he was capable enough to pull this kind of stunt off as long as he did I would not be surprised if there were hidden surprises, or even complications with Kataya’s sale. He had it out for her why I could not say, but I would have to be careful with how things go or this could end up very ugly very quickly.
The next evening I came down from my apartment and found O’Flynne in the Hallway. He stood there staring at Kataya’s door. He looked towards me, I guessing he heard me, he smiled and nodded, I could tell that even through the smile he was very concerned about Kataya. He was uneasy, yet I could also tell that he had not tried to enter the room. He waited for me before he would enter, this was an even better sign he respected me house greatly. When I was within a reasonable ways away I said:
“Good morning, I trust you slept well?”
“Good morning, My Lord, yes I did.” He answered.
“Good, shall we see how she is?” I asked.
“Yes” he nodded.
I could tell he was anxious to see her, we entered the room it was much the same as yesterday, the Headmistress was not present, nor as many servants. But the room was still dark for the most part. A servant saw us enter she came to us curtsy and whispered:
“My Lords, there has been no change.”
“Thank you.” I whispered.
O’Flynne nodded, then with the same level of care for sound he went to her bed, I followed and stood at the foot of the bed. I watched as he sat down on the edge of the bed gently. His look was as if too see if there was the slightest change to indicate she was getting better or not. He then gently ran his fingers across her face, as if he was making sure she was real. We then left and went to the Dinning Hall, when we arrived blood was brought for us both.
“So I see, that your concern for her has grown since last night.” I said after a while.
“Yes, My Lord. After seeing her yesterday, and seeing how bad her condition truly is has worried me greatly. But I know she is getting the best care possible.”
“Yes she is. There is an old healer in a nearby town, I sent for her assistance, she is on her way here. The Headmistress is fairly skilled in healing, but a second opinion is always a good idea.” I said.
“Yes it is.” he said then took a drink.
“Once we are done here, we will go to Marcus’ office I am looking for his personal ledger, the house ledger, as well as anything else that can be used as proof against him.” I said.
“My Lord, he will more than likely have build-in hidden compartments to hide any evidence against him. They will more than likely be very hard to find, if he is smart.” O’Flynne said.
“I am counting on it, that is why I asked for your assistance in this matter, two sets of eyes are better than one. When we search his office we will go over what the other has already searched to make sure nothing is missed.” I said.
“A sound plan, My Lord.” O’Flynne said.
