(Master P.O.V.)
Well dinner had certainly gone quicker than I thought it would, to say the least. O’Flynne was ready with the letters, he expected this to happen at some point during the evening, and thanks to his forthrightness I was able to get that problem dealt with. At least get thing started to deal with him, I had enough proof from the servants. They thankfully were sable to save quiet a bit, they then brought it to me when I arrived home. After Marcus was dismissed O’Flynne and I were able to talk, he was very forth right about the events the lead to the change that he had experienced. I had hoped he would tell me, I knew the High Order had things that they would not let him tell. He kept within there guide lines, I was pleasantly surprised by his action.
His actions showed that he genuinely has changed, which is unusual for someone with his reputation, but considering what he describe it is fully possible. What had happened to him was a full change of character, he was still himself but his attitudes were very different than his reputation would suggest. Even his attitude about my household was surprising, yet with this information factored in this was exactly the desired affect.
I excused us from the dinning hall to the Parlor, it was more comfortable of a place to sit and talk. I lead the way. As we entered I noticed the servants had a fire going already which made the room inviting. I went over to a set of chairs, I sat in my and motioned for him to sit in the other. He joined me, this was now an environment for talking, comfortable and informal.
“Well, now that formality’s are done. How is it that you came to be here? Looking I mean?” I asked.
“Well, I went to many markets on the other side of the mountains as well as many of them this side that I could find. But to no avail. I then started going to those who owned Fairies to see if I could find the one I was looking for, I tried the castles and manors on the other side of the mountains before coming here.” O’Flynne answered.
“What did find memorable about this journey?” I said.
“Well, I found that many of the markets in the Highlands are deplorable in their care of the slaves. The owners of them were rude to say the least. However I think the most memorable event was the moon rise a Carolway Manor. It was the first place I had gone to after the Markets, it was the first true feeding I had done after the “Light Time.” The moon light was so bright, yet it was also glowing, in away. It was like I was just seeing the moon itself for the first time. That meal was the most satisfying I had ever had in all my years, yet I had not killed her. She was still alive and awake. I held her until she had gathered herself and left, which left me alone on the balcony, with the moon light, it was awe inspiring.” O’Flynne answered.
“That sounds like a very memorable moment. Was there just one moment like that?” I asked.
“No,” he smiled. “Kenthen Castle, a very generous Master, actually arranged a local meeting of six masters and all their slaves to help in my search. For he had heard the High Order had sent me on a search for a Fairy he never explained how he had heard this. But his help was so unexpected and so much especially given my reputation. All he would say was I have heard that the High Order gave you a second chance and that you were sent to find a Fairy. Never in all my years had anyone done such a wondrous deed for me before. I was taken aback by this kindness, so much so that I was speechless for a moment, when he told me. It was a situation I did not know how to react to, I am still not sure how to react to that gesture. Nor am I sure that I showed my appreciation correctly. I hope he saw my lack of understanding of the situation, I plan to send a letter of appreciation to him when I return home.” O’Fynne said.
“That is a good plan, you may wish to add the explanation of never experiencing such a gesture. That will go along way with the Master at Kenthen. I wonder would you describe the moment when you saw Kataya, how if affected you? How you knew she was the you’ve been looking for?” I replied.
“Thank you, My Lord, for the idea. I had not thought to add that. My Lord, I do not exactly know how to explain that moment but I will try.” O’Flynn e answered.
“Please do, I know we touched on this lightly at dinner. Take your time, and express your feelings about what happened, the possible thoughts.” I replied and smiled. I hoped to get a glimpse into what he saw in her what connection was there he did not understand.
“Of course, My Lord. When I actually saw her, it was like the world stopped. I saw her laying in such a horrible place, yet it was a place I was in a way comfortable in, yet hated the fact she was in a place that I once found comfortable. I saw her beauty even though she is very ill. It was like my heart sank, my stomach was sicken by how she was being treated. I have seen so many Fairies in the last 10 months and none of them had such an affect on me. I wanted to take her in my arms and carry her out of that place. I wanted to clean her wounds. I wanted to help her regain her strength. At the same point I wanted to hunt down and kill the person responsible for causing her harm. I knew Marcus had a hand in it, however her smell was mixed with someone else, I am not sure, but the smell was similar to the Quartermaster. It was like in an instant my whole world was now hers, I would do anything to keep her safe, to make sure she was happy, my own needs are not important just her. My Lord, I do not know what words to use other than she is the one, I know it. I don’t know how or why.” he answered. With such a serious face, as if putting this into words was making this all more real to him.
“Thank you, for this explanation. The Quartermaster actions have also been called in to question for some known actions. I will add this suspicion to that list.” I said. I wanted him to know I took this situation seriously.
“My Lord, I’ve heard of Many Vampire Lords, but few would talk about by or even really want to talk about you, why if I may ask?” O’Fylnne asked.
I chuckled at this question, he looked confused I answered:
“Well, you see O’Flynne reputations have this nasty habit of following you for many years after things are one done. In my younger years I was a bit like you. Destructive, not quite as cruel, however people knew if I was angered for any reason I would do something rather horrible. Then I met my beautiful wife, and she changed everything, very similar to what you just described, my views began to change. But I had established myself as a mean person. That reputation of being mean and harsh still follows me to this day, so many years later.” I answered.
“Can one change a reputation?” O’Flynne asked, his tone was genuine.
“Yes,” I said with a smile, “however it is not an easy task. It can take years, to do so. In some cases even moving to a new location where one is unknown and building from the ground up. Both can be viable options for you, both require a lot of work.” I answered.
He listened very carefully to what I said, frown a little as if thinking, as if trying to figure out what to do with this information, or even how this information could help him in his life. A servant came in the room and brought a tray with a crystal bottle and two glasses, she brought it over and set it on the small table between us. As she carried out this task he looked up gently smiled and said ‘Thank you,’ I did the same.
“I am curious, what would you do with someone who has stolen extorted, and flat out lied to you?” I asked.
“Hmm…. Is this person in a position of trust?” he asked.
“Yes. Has been well treated, everything this person has is because of there service to you.” I answered.
“Well, I would, humiliate them. Take everything that was given and give them as well as the evidence to the local government. If there is no local government then I would confine them to a small room with there basic needs are meet, food, shelter, and something that can keep them occupied.” he answered.
“Now I will add that this person is Marcus.” I said.
I saw his anger flash across his face, I also watched as he got it back under control very quickly. I am guessing that Marcus had given him plenty of practice during his stay. This was truly impressive, he really was trying to embrace this second chance he was given.
“My Lord, the list for Marcus offenses in missing mistreatment of servants. And mistreatment of slaves. Both of which if I’m not mistaken for the Highlands is punishable by death depending on the testimony” he answered.
“Yes it is. But I did not ask you what the law was I asked you what you would do? If he was a member of your household?” I said.
“I see, My Lord, I well frankly, I would give him a taste of what he had done. Then turn him over to the traveling Marshal. Where my home is that is the only law enforcement we have.” he answered.
“I see. That is what I was hoping for. I am sure you’ve noticed me watching your reply’s carefully. Even Vampires have tells of honesty or lies. You have been honest this evening I am very please with that fact. Thank You.” I said and smiled.
He seemed unsure what to do with that statement. I began to pour us each a glss of the blood that was brought. This was special blood it was from a wonderful Fairy that I cared for deeply, the same one that O’Flynne was soon to purchase. I wanted to see his reaction, when he tasted her blood. I watched as the sent reached his nose, his eyes darken to a glowing reddish purple. The glowing caught my attention, I knew that line. I now know why the High Order wanted to give him a chance at a new life.
“Is this…….Is this Her blood?’ O’Flynne asked.
“Yes it is. I have discovered a way to store blood for short periods of time, makes traveling easier. I thought you’d like to try some before you decided she was fit for food.” I said.
“Thank you for the Sample.” O’Flynne. Said.
