Three days passed. The cell remained empty and silent. Beichen sat cross-legged against the wall, eyes half-closed, breathing slowly toward the window.
A sliver of sunlight fell across his pale face.
Honestly, the dungeon conditions weren't bad. The floor was dry, ventilation was decent, and the floor tiles were premium royal kiln bluestone.
No rats, no moss, no centipedes, no bedbugs. The daily meals tasted awful, but the meat and veggie combos were carefully planned.
The only unbearable part was the darkness. Pitch black at night. A single sliver of light during the day. Only endless loneliness and irritation.
Some bastard ancestor of the Ye Clan must have invented this torture. The kind of punishment that deserves a curse on his bloodline.
Ye Jin could guarantee it: no one could last seven days in this mental hell.
Three days in, the reborn Su Beichen was already going crazy. The loneliness clawed at his mind like tangled weeds.
Before him, the original owner of this body had lasted twenty-seven days. Pushed to a total breakdown. Then he chose to hang himself.
Three more days possessed by Su Beichen. That made a full month. Surviving this was enough to turn a ghost into an immortal.
No wonder Beichen felt that massive resentment.
During the soul fusion, Su Beichen's consciousness took full control. He inherited all of Ye Jin's memories—and all of his grudges.
"...You survived blow after blow. So why die now?"
Su Beichen slowly opened his eyes. A faint sadness flickered in his starry eyes.
"...Hanging on this long before checking out. That makes you a tough bastard."
"So lonely..." He sighed, sliding down the wall. He stared blankly at the dark ceiling.
Life in a cell was brutal. The darkness tortured the mind.
Three days in, Beichen hadn't fully adapted to being Young Master Ye. The torment was already unbearable.
Luckily, Ye Jin came from a TCM family. His grandfather forced him to master Yoga and Qigong since childhood.
No games to kill time. So after every meal, Ye Jin practiced Yoga and quiet Qigong.
Better to use the time than suffer the passing minutes.
On the third day, a miracle happened. The blurry status screen in his mind sea suddenly became clear.
Besides the empty equipment slots, Ye Jin found his Inventory!
He had found the one hundred and twenty-four inventory slots earlier. He thought it was just for show.
But when he successfully pulled out a few items, Ye Jin broke down.
He squatted in the corner, staring at the window. He couldn't take the environment anymore.
He entered his mind sea and opened the Pet tab.
"Great Healing Powder (60): A spirit medicine that quickly restores 300 HP."
"Great Qi Tonic (45): A spirit medicine that quickly restores 300 Qi."
"Silver Chi Dagger: Forged from Silver Cold Iron, quenched in Chi blood. Cuts hair and slices iron like mud."
"Recording Jade Slip (1): Captures unlimited, high-definition images."
"Earth Escape Talisman (18): Use once to walk freely through the ground for 30 minutes!"
"Holy Spirit Talisman (6): A powerful healing talisman. Dispels all abnormal states and continuously restores HP to full."
"Biluo Dragon-Pattern Armor: Part of the Biluo set. Increases Will by 15, Spirit by 10."
Ye Jin's mind stirred. He focused his will on the Silver Chi Dagger. A prompt appeared.
"Equip this item?"
"Yes!"
A flash of silver light. Ye Jin gripped the dagger. The silver-white blade was covered in Chi patterns, incredibly sharp.
"I can actually take out this equipment?" Ye Jin stared at the dagger. Ecstasy surged in his heart.
He took the shining dagger and lightly cut his wrist. A drop of blood welled up.
"f**k!"
He'd been so focused on surviving, he completely forgot about his inventory.
He thought for a moment, then opened the Pet tab. Two slots for pets. His newly bought assistant pet—the Little Green Sprite—was inside.
It had huge eyes taking up half its face, bouncing around like a rubber ball.
Ye Jin clicked to summon. A jade-green light flew from his palm, spinning happily.
Inside the fist-sized green glow was a translucent figure, staring at him with big eyes.
"Chirp chirp... giggle giggle..." To Ye Jin's relief, the little green sprite showed no unfamiliarity with his new face.
It just bounced in his palm, making crisp sounds like a lark.
"...Cute Mumu. Never thought I'd only have you for company in a place like this."
Ye Jin reached out and flicked its chubby little cheek. It felt like a smooth sponge.
"Chirp... giggle..."
The sprite gave a comfortable moan, stuck out its tiny tongue, and made a face at him.
"Little Green Sprite (Mumu). HP: 60. Qi: 55. Skill: Shennong's Eye."
"Shennong's Eye: Identifies all herbs in the world."
"...Why did I pick such a useless little thing as a pet?" Ye Jin held the round little ball, smiling bitterly.
This sprite was the lowest-tier trash pet in "Genesis of the Gods." Its only use was finding herbs and detecting hostile plant bosses.
Ye Jin bought it back then to practice alchemy. Combat power: zero.
In "Genesis of the Gods," pets were divided into Combat, Support, and Life types.
Expecting this little thing to level up and rule the world? Laughable.
But for finding herbs? It saved a ton of time.
In the game, when Ye Jin saw people riding tigers, Qilin, or Phoenixes, he'd stare with envy like every other noob. Even guys riding Wind Wolves or Netherworld Wolves made him jealous.
But cool pets cost money. Ye Jin planned to level up, make bank, then release this sprite out of "humanitarian" reasons and get a badass pet.
But right after he got the formulas for Instant Healing Pills and Instant Qi Pills, before he could cash in, he transmigrated here.
Now, in this dark, lonely cell, having this little sprite for company felt incredibly warm. It eased his anxiety and depression.
"Chirp... giggle..."
A green ball-like shadow bounced around the cell, its silver-bell sounds echoing non-stop.
