Liliths Dream

1285 Words
As Lilith slept, she tossed and turned as her dream came into focus. Lilith woke up on the cool ground of the moonlit woods. A gentle breeze began to blow, rustling the leaves as she made her way to getting up. "Where am I?" Lilith said, her voice filled with uncertainty as she looked around. Another breeze began to blow. The lingering smell of rain filled the air, hitting her nose. Lilith looked up at the sky. A single shooting star. "Make a wish," Lilith spoke to herself as she closed her eyes to wish upon the star. She opened her eyes once again to watch the star disappear. A cool single drop of rain fell from the sky, landing on her cheek. Lilith started to panic a bit, looking around trying to find a place to get out of the rain. Lilith's skin began to crawl, and she got the feeling of being watched. She began to run. "Lilith Athena Edom" Lilith stopped. Frozen in place, she called out, fear creeping into her voice. "Who's there?" No one but the wind responded. Lilith hadn't heard that name in some time. When Lilith's mother passed, her father changed her name, cutting all ties to her mother's family and homeland. Not one person in Oceana knew that name except her father. The wind blew again, this time chilling her to the bone. "Lilith Athena Edom" This time the voice sounded like it was trying to find her. "Who's there?" Lilith spoke as she turned in a complete circle, looking at all of her surroundings. Once again, nothing but empty darkness. The fear gripped her tight and she took off into another run, trying to get away. "Is someone chasing me?" Lilith said. Faster and faster she ran, her breath tight in her chest. The rain kept crashing down, soaking her to the bone. "Lilith Athena Edom" The voice sounded a bit closer. Lilith stopped, spinning around, hoping she would catch whoever called her name. "Show yourself!" Lilith stood there for a few moments waiting for whoever was chasing her to come out and show themselves, yet still nothing. Lilith took off running again into the woods. The wind blew through the trees, the sound of branches snapping under her feet. She finally got to a castle. Lilith hoped that she could get inside so that she could get out of the rain. She knocked. No answer. "Maybe everyone is asleep." Lilith looked around searching for any sign that someone lived in this castle. "Lilith" The voice came from behind her near her ear. She thought she could feel his breath brush across her neck. She slowly turned, fear seeping into her bones along with the cold chill from the rain, yet nobody was there. Lilith then remembered that every castle had a servants' entrance. She made her way around to the door and then she knocked. Waiting for a few moments to pass, there was still no answer. "I guess no one lives here." Lilith started to feel like she was going crazy. "Lilith Athena" Her skin started to crawl. "I have no idea who you are. You won't show yourself, so just stop please!" Yet again Lilith was talking to nothing but darkness. She kept standing there trying to come up with her next move. "Lilith Athena Edom". Her name came as a growl. Getting closer and closer, yet she didn't see anyone. "Lilith Athena" Lilith woke up sweating, her breath coming in short hard gasps. She took a look around, noticing she was in her room alone in bed. "What the heck happened? It was the dream again?" Lilith sighed softly. "Who kept calling my name? Mary must have gone to bed," she spoke softly in the darkness. Unfortunately, sleep would not be coming back. Mary rushed down the hall and headed right for King Dominic's chambers. She zoomed past every servant that came her way, missing and dodging them as she flew. She came upon the door to the king's chambers. She took a deep breath and knocked as loudly as she could and waited for an answer. The king's booming voice broke the silence like a knife through butter. "Yes, come in!" Mary jumped slightly at the king's voice and opened the door. She peeked her head in and said, "May I come in, sir? There's a matter I'd like to speak with you about. It involves the princess." The king looked up and didn't seem to be happy. "Yes Mary, come on in. Is Lilith alright? What's wrong? Did something happen to her?" The King never once looked away from Mary. Twenty minutes went by before he looked back at the mountain of papers in front of him. Mary stood there screaming on the inside to speak. Oh, she still didn't know how to put it. With a sigh, she said, "Yes Sir, she's alright, she was asleep when I left her." "She also told me about the conversation at dinner. I'm thrilled that she is giving Jace another chance. But I came here to tell you she has also confirmed to me, she's having these dreams, and they come every night." Mary stepped back slightly after she spoke and looked at the king, shaking like a leaf. "I know I should have told you so...." King Dominic raised his hand, stopping Mary before she could finish. The king sighed and rubbed his head. "If she can marry before the next full moon, she'll be a powerful hunter and, if not, she will lose all her powers forever. I married The Queen with no knowledge of what she was. Once we married, she told me everything, and then she shared some of her powers and I became one as well." "The prophecy says she may have strength in love. Find another like you and gain ultimate power. I need her to get married before the next full moon, three months from now. I feel Jace is the right choice to be her husband." "The dreams are to draw her to the one she should be with, according to the prophecy. I should tell her, but I don't want her to be upset with me for keeping it from her this long. Shall we wait and see how the meeting with Jace goes?" Mary looked down, shocked. "Your Majesty, are you sure? Shouldn't this be her choice?" "Yes it should." The King looked grim. The silence grew. Mary thought it over carefully before she spoke up. "We shall not tell her, but let her feel and choose for herself. If the meeting with Jace goes well, then I will tell her everything. All we can really do is be there for her." Mary spoke with confidence. Her true love will show when the time is right? Will he also know her true name? He will call her by this name, but does everything start with one dream? Mary was confused about everything, but she trusted the king with her life. Mary and King Dominic continued their conversation till the early morning light. "So do we agree? Do not speak a word of these events to her till she has made her choice?" Mary looked at the King. The king didn't speak. He only sighed and nodded his head in agreement. "Yes, we will keep it from her till the time is right." Mary spoke one last time on the subject. "How will we know it's the right time?" The king looked off into space as he spoke, "We will just know." With the last word spoken, Mary bowed to her king and left his chambers as the conversation played in her head.
