The Council

Ash's POV: Three Days later: I hadn't been able to find my mate since that day at the creek and it was starting to wear on me. I had finally told Jack that I had saw her that day and he had tried to find her too but neither of us could. It was as if she vanished. With the council coming I had to focus on one matter at a time. My wolf wanted me to focus on my mate but I knew my duties as alpha required me to focus on the arrival of the council. They were due to arrive today. They were here for my review, it had officially been 5 years since I took over as Alpha and they were coming to make sure that I was fit to lead a pack. They did this with all the new alphas to ensure that all wolves were under strong leadership. That didn't necessarily mean good. I got up and readied for the day taking a shower and putting on a clean black shirt and blue jeans. Heading downstairs to greet my pack members, I run in to my beta Jack and his mate Diane. The whole pack house was a buzz with excitement of the arrival of the council and with the council came leaders and members of other packs. This gave the unmated wolves a chance of finding their mates in the ranks of visiting wolves. "You ready for today?" He asks me as we round the corner into the kitchen. "As ready as I ever will be." I replied "Where's Gray?" "Waiting at the border to escort the council." he answers Gray is my third in command and my younger brother. He is the solemn, quiet type but always takes his job very seriously. "I think he is dreading this." he says giving me a concerned look looking at him confused and say "Why?" "He's worried abo..." "About what?" I say cutting him off "You." he says looking uneasy shuffling from foot to foot "He has nothing to worry about. I'll be fine. Plus did he tell you he was worried about me?" I say questioningly "Well no,...but I know..." "You see, he knows I'll be fine. I think it's you who is worried." I say matter of factly "He's right you know." Diane pipes up beside him " You are an obsessive worrier." "Your supposed to be on my side..." he says looking a little shocked "Not rat me out!" "Well stop worrying Ash will be fine, he is a strong alpha." she says "I know he will be." he says looking not convinced at all "I'm going to take a quick run to clear my head before the council gets hear, alert me as soon as the are at the border." I say heading towards the door. "Yes Alpha." Jack says I walk out of the pack house then take off at a run jumping up and shifting in mid-air as soon as my Wolf's paws hit the ground he takes off at a dead run straight into the forest. My wolf is a big black beast with gray and white undertones in coat and green eyes. We wonder through the forest for about 45 minutes when Gray mind links me. "The council is pulling up to the border now." "Thanks, Gray." "No problem, Alpha." "I told you, you don't have to call me that." He didn't answer me back, which I was use to. I head back to the pack house stopping on the way at the tree where I stash a change of clothes. Shifting back I dress and head across the meadow and in through the back door. Just as I enter the house I hear the crunching of tires on gravel, signaling the council's arrival.
