THE ALPHA'S PROMISE

1499 Words
The morning after the Rogue King's warning arrived heavy with fear. Dark clouds covered the sky, and an uneasy silence settled over the Moon Shadow Pack. Warriors patrolled every entrance while Night Fang soldiers stood shoulder to shoulder with Moon Shadow's guards. No one smiled. No one laughed. Everyone knew the Rogue King would come. It was only a matter of time. Luna stood outside the healer's cottage, watching children play under the watchful eyes of their mothers. She wished they could enjoy one more peaceful day without fear. "You've been standing here for a long time." She turned to find Kael walking toward her. Dressed in black training clothes instead of his usual formal attire, he looked less like a king and more like a warrior preparing for war. "You should be resting," he said gently. Luna smiled faintly. "I don't think I'll be able to rest until this is over." Kael stopped beside her. "You've been blaming yourself." She lowered her eyes. "If I didn't exist, none of this would be happening." Kael gently lifted her chin until their eyes met. "Look at me." She did. "This war didn't begin because of you," he said firmly. "It began because evil men chose greed over honor." "But innocent people are getting hurt." "They're fighting because they choose to protect their future. And whether you believe it or not..." He smiled softly. "You're part of that future." Luna felt tears sting her eyes. "No one has ever believed in me the way you do." "I always will." For a moment, neither of them spoke. The wind carried the scent of pine through the village as the morning sun finally broke through the clouds. Kael reached into his pocket and removed a small silver pendant shaped like a crescent moon. "It belonged to my mother." Luna looked at him in surprise. "She told me to give it to the woman who captured my heart." He carefully placed it around her neck. "I want you to keep it." Luna touched the pendant with trembling fingers. "I don't know what to say." "You don't have to say anything." Before the moment could continue, the warning horn suddenly echoed across the valley. Once. Twice. Three times. Kael's expression instantly changed. "The western gate," Damon shouted as he ran toward them. "Scouts report hundreds of rogues approaching!" Warriors rushed toward the walls. Kael looked at Luna. "Stay inside the healer's cottage." "I'm not hiding while everyone risks their lives." "Luna—" "I won't fight," she interrupted. "But I'll help the wounded." Kael hesitated before nodding. "Stay where I can find you." "I promise." Minutes later, the enormous wooden gates shook violently. Boom! Another impact followed. Boom! The third strike shattered the gates into splinters. A massive army of rogue wolves poured into the valley. At their head walked a tall man wearing black armor trimmed with crimson. The Rogue King. His cold smile spread across his face as his eyes found Luna in the crowd. "So..." he called loudly. "The child of Selene Carter survived after all." A wave of shock swept through both packs. The Rogue King slowly drew his sword and.... The Rogue King's threat echoed across the valley. For a brief moment, no one moved. The wind carried the scent of blood and smoke through the broken gates as both armies stood facing each other. Then Kael stepped forward. His silver eyes were cold with fury. "If you want my mate," he said, his deep voice carrying across the battlefield, "you'll have to kill me first." The Rogue King laughed. "I was planning to." With a wave of his hand, he roared, "Attack!" Hundreds of rogue wolves charged at once. The ground trembled beneath their paws as they crashed into the united warriors of the Moon Shadow and Night Fang Packs. The battlefield exploded into chaos. Warriors shifted into wolves, their howls shaking the mountains. Claws slashed through the air, swords clashed against steel, and cries of battle echoed through the valley. Kael transformed into his enormous black wolf and leaped straight at the Rogue King. The two Alphas collided with such force that both were thrown across the battlefield before rising to attack again. Nearby, Damon led the Night Fang warriors while the Moon Shadow warriors defended their homes with everything they had. Inside the healer's tent, Luna and Mira worked desperately to save the wounded. "More bandages!" the healer shouted. Luna hurried to help a young warrior whose arm had been badly injured. "You're going to be alright," she assured him, though fear tightened her chest. Another explosion sounded outside. The battle was drawing closer. Suddenly, one of the tents burst open. Three rogue wolves rushed inside. "There she is!" one of them growled. Mira screamed. "Luna, run!" The healer grabbed a wooden staff, but one rogue knocked him to the ground. Luna backed away until there was nowhere left to go. The lead rogue smiled cruelly. "Our King has waited twenty-one years for you." He raised his silver dagger. Just before the blade could strike, Mira threw herself between them. "No!" The dagger slashed across Mira's shoulder. "Mira!" Luna cried. Seeing her best friend collapse sent a wave of terror through her body. Something deep inside her awakened. A warm voice echoed gently within her heart. "Luna... it is time." A brilliant silver light burst from her body, forcing everyone to shield their eyes. The ground trembled. The magical seal that had imprisoned her wolf for twenty-one years shattered completely. When the light faded, a magnificent silver she-wolf stood where Luna had been. Her fur shimmered like moonlight, and her piercing blue eyes glowed with ancient power. The rogues froze in horror. "The Moon Wolf..." one whispered. With a powerful growl, Luna lunged forward, knocking the rogues out of the tent before they could react. Outside, every warrior stopped fighting for a single heartbeat. Kael looked toward the silver wolf and smiled despite the battle raging around him. "I knew you were always there," he whispered. The Rogue King's face twisted with excitement. "So the prophecy is true!" He abandoned his fight with Kael and charged toward Luna. "You belong to me!" Luna met him head-on. For the first time in her life, she fought with confidence instead of fear. The Rogue King struck again and again, but Luna dodged every attack with incredible speed. Still, he was stronger. A powerful blow sent Luna crashing to the ground. Seeing her fall, Kael roared with fury. He launched himself at the Rogue King, and the two rolled across the battlefield in a fierce struggle. The Rogue King reached for a hidden dagger. Before he could strike, Luna sprang to her feet and knocked the weapon from his hand. Kael seized the opportunity. With one final, devastating blow, he defeated the Rogue King. The villain collapsed onto the battlefield. His remaining rogues looked at one another before fleeing into the forest. The war was over. Silence slowly replaced the sounds of battle. Luna shifted back into her human form, exhausted. Kael immediately wrapped his cloak around her shoulders and gently pulled her into his arms. "You were incredible," he whispered. Luna smiled through tears. "I wasn't brave because I wasn't afraid." She looked into his eyes. "I was brave because I wasn't fighting alone." Kael rested his forehead against hers. "And you never will again." --- Three days later, the Moon Shadow Pack gathered beneath the same full moon that had first united them. The villagers who had once mocked Luna now stood before her with respect. Serena stepped forward first. "I'm sorry," she said quietly. "I judged you without knowing your heart." Luna smiled gently. "I forgive you." Elder Rowan's eyes filled with tears. "I promised your parents that I would protect you until the day you discovered who you truly were." He smiled proudly. "I've kept that promise." Before the entire gathering, Kael took Luna's hands. "My wolf chose you the moment our eyes met." "But I choose you with all my heart." He knelt on one knee. "Luna Carter... will you stand beside me as my mate, my Luna, and my queen?" Tears streamed down Luna's face. For years she had believed she was unwanted. Now she had a family, a home, and a man who loved her unconditionally. "Yes," she whispered. "I will." The crowd erupted into joyful cheers as Kael placed the crescent moon pendant around her neck once more and kissed her forehead. Under the blessing of the full moon, the Alpha and his Luna stood hand in hand, not because destiny had forced them together, but because they had chosen each other. And from that night forward, Luna Carter was never again remembered as the girl without a wolf. She was remembered as the Luna who united the packs and brought peace to the werewolf kingdomd and pointed it directly at Luna. "Hand her over..." "...or every person standing here dies today.
