Audrey wearily rose from the cold stone floor she had scrubbed. Her sturdy frame, marked with bruises and shadows, bore the weight of the oppressive chore and beating from Asher’s hands.
Her blonde hair, tousled and tinged with the dust of her labor, framed a face with blue eyes that held both resilience and weariness. The bruises on her ribs and torso, souvenirs of Asher's cruelty, whispered of a torment hidden beneath the surface.
At least her Alpha blood helped her to heal faster than other Omegas. A secret that no doubt delighted the Alpha family, it meant they could beat her more.
“I’ll help you,” her wolf, Runa, whispered in her mind. Audrey smiled, at least she didn’t have to endure it all alone. “I know you will.”
“One day....” Runa growled.
“One day indeed,” Audrey said out loud, staring in the direction Asher had walked away.
As Audrey returned to the Omega house, a collection of bunk beds crowded into a dimly lit room, the air thick with the scent of despair. The creaking of the bunk beds echoed through the space, a somber symphony accompanying the silent struggles of those resigned to the shadows.
In one corner, Betsy, an Omega weathered by time and hardship, awaited her return. Betsy's eyes, filled with a mix of empathy and sorrow, met Audrey's as she entered.
Her robust frame and broad shoulders exude strength, representative of her resilience and work ethic. Her once-blonde faded to a silver hue, neatly pulled back into a practical bun that somehow never frayed or fell out.
With a face etched by time and weathered by life's trials, Betsy's features carried the weight of wisdom and resilience. Her blue eyes, sharp and discerning, reflected a depth of experience.
Betsy hung her simple, well-worn apron on a hook at the end of her bunk and began to unbutton her modest dress to change into a night dress. The lines etched on her hands tell stories of labor and care, serving as a testament to her role as a nurturing figure in the lives of the Omegas under Sacha's rule.
There was no privacy in the Omega quarters, which made it difficult for Audrey to hide how quickly she healed from the Alpha family’s abuse. The Omegas here didn’t trust anyone of “stronger” blood. It was best they thought Audrey was one of them by birth. "They're stronger than every single member of that damned family," Runa hissed.
"Did A ‘visit’ you again?," Betsy murmured, her voice a soothing balm in the oppressive silence. Betsy's voice, when she spoke, carried the timbre of authority softened by compassion and resonated through the bunk beds. The bunk beds, each holding an Omega with their own silent stories, bore witness to the exchange between Audrey and Betsy, a person of solace for all of them.
Audrey nodded and shook her head. Her main comfort was Runa’s whisper of “one day..” That kept her going during the darkest night, that her wolf had faith they’d be free and free others. She grabbed a pair of rough cotton pajamas from a worn chest of drawers. She managed to take her maid’s shirt off and slip the pajama top on without revealing any skin. She examined her work shirt, looking for stains or dirt, and sighed when she spotted the faint outline of a dirty fist. She’d have to get up early to clean it and, as it was, there was little time for sleep.
She changed out of her work trousers as quickly as she could, knowing already they’d need to be spot cleaned where she’d knelt.
Audrey settled into the cramped space, the bunk beds offering both refuge and confinement, Betsy's weathered hands reached out, gently tending to the bruises that marred Audrey's skin with a homemade poultice stored in a tattered trunk.
“I wish they’d let you wear undergarments, at least on top,” Betsy whispered.
“I do too,” was another part of her humiliation. The servant uniforms were not revealing, but the threadbare white shirt did little to hide her full breasts when it was cold. And it was always cold in the big stone house.
In the shared silence of the house, amidst the whispers of unspoken pain, a fragile sanctuary emerged—a place where the strength of bonds forged in adversity surpassed the brutality of the Golden Moon pack's reign.
