The bus to Brownsville took forever. Riley literally sat on the edge of her seat the whole time, hoping to get off as soon as possible. Even though Brownsville wasn’t exactly an aristocratic town, completely opposite really—the familiarity of the streets and faces she had seen passing or at the diner gave her some sense of safety and control. But being on the bus full of strangers made her feel lonely and unsafe and at the laser focus on every single person.
