The communications network at the Madden's residence in Grunwald ran through the regular German Telecom system. Installing a wiretapping system, therefore, presented no real problems for the police technicians. But getting the opportunity to make the installation confidentially was a different matter.
During the day, the house was a hive of activity. Even when Gia Madden had business elsewhere, getting a suitable opportunity was no gimme either. The Bavarian telephone company, however, was happy to cooperate and a pair of technical police officers wearing Telecom uniforms and using a routine maintenance excuse were able to get access to the systems and fix taps in her living quarters and in-house office facilities.
