Later the same afternoon, Frank Kruger and Inspector Ziegler arrived at the Madden's residence for the interview with Gia Madden. If she felt nervous, it didn't show. In fact, she was more friendly than otherwise. She saw them in her library. A room full of books, old and new, and immersed in light. Ziegler looked around. Somewhere in this beautifully furnished room the guys from Special Services had hidden their secure bugs. But where! Whatever, marvellous work.
After a perfunctory greeting, she chose to sit at the writing desk. She waved them to easy chairs. But Kruger opted for a straight-backed Chippendale across from her. Ziegler followed suit. A maid came in with coffee and poured three cups. Gia took hers at the desk. She placed the other bone china cups on a low table
