Frank Kruger slept little that night. New thoughts buzzed around in his head like bees in a hive. First, the newspaper article hinting at misdoings within the Maddens management, then the allusions to misdeeds by the new chief executive and finally Ziegler's report on his talk with Markus Hammer, which seemed to tie it all together.
He was at his desk by six-thirty the following morning, having bought all the early editions of the morning's local and national papers. Overnight, Madden Corporation had become big news, especially in the business sections, which could only be to the benefit of his ongoing investigation.
