After watching that man disappear from sight with clenched jaws, it took me almost a minute to recover from shock.
It was him. It was him all along. He is the man who played me like a child.
“ Raven,” Valen's voice sounded from behind me, forcing me to conceal the angry look on my face.
Turning around, I forced a smile.
“ You are here,” I said casually, but the Valen didn't seem to hear my words, only gave me a suspicious gaze.
“ What are you doing here?” He asked, his voice wary.
“ Nothing. I just felt bored and decided to get some fresh air.” I replied without meeting his gaze.
I lied. Although that was the initial purpose, I did not get any fresh air. I only managed to encounter two psychopaths.
Valen gave me the ‘ I don't believe you’ look but did not press on the matter.
“ I thought I saw someone walk away from here. Maybe I was dreaming.” Although the words were said so dismissively, the meaning behind them could not be concealed.
After withdrawing his gaze which seemed frightening at some point, Valen smiled at me.
“I was looking for you.” Valen said, successfully changing the topic.
“ What's wrong? Did something happen?” I asked, worry etched on my face.
After leaving behind a chaotic pack, I was afraid that things would spiral out of control.
Valen shook his head.
“ Raven, I have a surprise for you. Wait here for me.”
Valen walked away after saying that but not without giving a strange look.
After a minute, I heard light footsteps approaching making me turn around eagerly but the person I expected did not appear, rather a familiar face greeted me. Leah had a smile on her face but with the past experience of her cruel heart, I became wary.
“ It's been long, Raven.” Leah said but I ignored her.
I was not interested in striking up a conversation with her. Although she didn't kill my sister, she did nothing but watch as Asher dealt with her.
“ Are you not going to talk to me anymore? After all, we have quite a past.” The woman said and I clenched my hands into fists.
It's right, we did have a past together.
As for the past, it was better to forget about it.
“ I saw Asher follow you here. After so many years, it seems he can't forget about you.” Leah casually commented, making me scoff.
Forget about me, my ass.
“ Don't spout nonsense.” I directly dismissed her.
If she did not have anything to say, it would be better to just shut up than say unpleasant things.
“You don't believe it, do you? Then why haven't I been crowned Luna of the pack?” Leah stubbornly continued.
“ But there's still a price you have to pay for holding a place in his heart.”
Leah said, her words sounding sinister.
“ What do you mean?” Turning around, I asked only to suddenly feel dizzy.
At that moment, I saw Leah approach me with a dagger in her hands before she stabbed me.
The pain made me pass out immediately.
When I woke up, I was greeted by a pair of angry eyes.
A killing aura was evident in those eyes making me shudder involuntarily.
“ Asher…” I croaked out the name,my eyes scanning the surrounding to see countless people staring angrily at me.
“ Very well Raven, you have managed to cross my bottom line. How dare you kill Leah?”
Asher's words exploded in my brain like a detonated bomb.
“ I didn't.” I replied, shaking my head in denial.
“ Really?” Asher chuckled but his voice carried a hint of malice.
“ You have the murder weapon in your hands and her cold lifeless body is laying here next to you. With all the evidence, are you still Insisting that you didn't kill her?”
Asher's words made my heart drop. Truly, I was holding a bloody knife in my arms with Leah's body not far from me.
“ I didn't kill her.” I insisted. Although I knew with the ‘ evidence’ no one would believe me,I was not going to admit to a crime I didn't commit either.
“ Is that so? Then tell me, Alpha Rivera, what were you doing here?” Asher asked.
I was about to explain that I was waiting for my beta when the sound of heels clicking on the marble floor echoed through the hallway.
“ Alpha Rivera huh? How dare you impersonate me and commit a crime in my name?” The lady who just arrived asked, her eyes staring at me disdainfully.
I was shocked to see someone declaring that I was impersonating her but what shocked me the most was Valen following closely behind her.
When our eyes met, I froze from the intense hatred in his eyes.
My heart dropped and I realised what was happening.
I was set up, not only with one crime but two of them. The punishment for the two crimes would not be less than death.
I smiled deprecatingly. I always thought that after leaving the pack and escaping from the claws of death and becoming an alpha, I could finally control my life.
What a joke!
It turns out I was just a chess piece in a well thought game.
“ What is happening here? How can there be two Alpha Riveras?” A middle aged Alpha asked.
Asher scoffed.
“ Isn't it obvious? This woman dared to impersonate someone else, sneak to the pack and kill my Luna. She deserves to die.” Asher declared, convicting and passing judgement at me without giving me a chance to explain.
“ I didn't impersonate anyone nor did I kill your Luna.”
That was the truth and I was going to stick to it until the end.
“ Shut up!”
A slap echoed through the hallway, my face tilting to the side and a small cut appeared at the corner of my lips.
“ How dare you speak here? Take her away.” The woman ordered.
The whole time, Valen said nothing in defence, only glaring at me with resentful eyes.
“ Who dares take away my woman?”
