CHRISTMAS SURPRISE

490 Words
Christmas Day, and Eva was feeling restless. She was alone, Jamie was with his dad (they'd met once, and Max had dropped by briefly), but now she was itching to do something more. As she tidied up the kitchen, an idea struck her. Why not take a chance? It was Christmas, after all – a time for miracles and new beginnings. Eva grabbed her portfolio and headed out into the crisp winter air. She had a plan: find a literary agency and pitch herself as a writer. It was a long shot, but she had to try. As she walked, the festive lights twinkling above her, Eva felt a spark of determination. She'd write again, no matter what. She'd make it happen. After a few wrong turns, she spotted a small agency tucked away between a café and a bookstore. "Literary Agency" the sign read. Eva took a deep breath and pushed open the door. Inside, she was greeted by a friendly receptionist, who led her to a cozy office where a man with a warm smile introduced himself as Andrew. "I'm looking for talented writers," he said, his eyes sparkling. "What makes you think you're the one I'm looking for?" Eva's heart skipped a beat, but she launched into her story – the writing, the dreams, the doubts. Andrew listened intently, nodding and asking questions. As they talked, Eva felt a spark of possibility ignite. Maybe, just maybe, this was the break she needed. Andrew leaned back in his chair, a thoughtful expression on his face. "I think we might be able to work something out, Eva. I've got a few projects in the works that could use a writer with your style." Eva's eyes widened, her heart racing. "Really?" Andrew smiled, scribbling a note on a piece of paper. "Yes, really. Let's discuss the details." Eva left the literary agency with a spring in her step, the cold winter air a stark contrast to the warmth she'd felt inside. Andrew's words echoed in her mind: "I think we might be able to work something out." She couldn't help but feel a spark of excitement. As she walked, she pulled out the note Andrew had handed her, studying the scribbled words. "Call me next week. Let's discuss further." A sense of anticipation washed over her. What could this mean for her writing career? Eva's thoughts swirled with possibilities as she strolled through the quiet streets. She hadn't felt this hopeful in a long time. Maybe, just maybe, this was the break she'd been waiting for. As she approached her apartment, Eva noticed a familiar figure walking towards her. Her heart skipped a beat, but it wasn't Max. It was just a neighbor, waving hello. Eva smiled, waving back. As she entered her apartment, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was shifting. She poured herself a cup of coffee, settling in to enjoy the rest of her Christmas Day.
