The Scars of Friendship

1121 Words
The company had scheduled an emergency meeting, which ought to commence in the next few minutes. Dressed in a white floral gown that flowed down freely to my knees, I picked the car keys as I hurriedly walked down the stairs. A beep sounded on my phone, which indicated an incoming call. I looked at the phone, and I could hardly recognize the caller. With a long snare, I reluctantly placed it on my ears. The voice of the caller was wavering and familiar. I ransacked my brain, trying to recall the voice of the caller. “Hi, it's Claire, please dear, your husband is in trouble, the company just got involved in a fire accident and he was among the victims, please hurry up to his help” she pleaded with a wavering tone. My heart sank into my stomach, and I could hear each sound of my heartbeat. My jaws clenched immediately, and my tongues were literally tied to my mouth. I picked up my phone and called 911 immediately to save the two people I so much loved from harm. “Claire was my husband's personal assistant, and she might have partially gotten involved in the fire accident and would also be needing my help” I thought aloud to myself. Drenched in the pool of my sweats, I booked a cab, and luckily, the cabman arrived earlier than expected. Getting to the company, I could see thick flames of smoke exhuming from the top roof of the company, and that sent shivers down my spine. I pictured my husband in the shallow of hot flames while seeking help. There were no other workers at the different floors of the company, and that left me wondering if no one was compassionate enough to alleviate the fire situation. Getting to the top floor of the building where the flames were visibly coming out from, I walked in but was surprised not to hear a single voice crying for help from the building. Hot streams of urine escaped my thighs as I pictured my husband's already burnt body inside the burning flame. I held my heart, trying hard not to let it collapse as I pictured my already burnt husband's body in this pool of hot flames. I walked slowly towards the fire, and the heat oozing out from the flame sent drips of sweats running down my whole body. I made the sign of the cross as I walked into the burning fire, determined to save my own husband. Immediately, I walked in, I could feel my whole body hurting severely, and I could feel my soul passing away from my body. I opted to run away from the fire as no voice could be heard from inside of the fire, but on a second thought, I needed to save my husband. After a few minutes of thoroughly searching for maybe his lifeless or helpless body in vain, I ran out of the fire immediately, my clothes totally burnt. With the last strength in me, I managed to run downstairs as I could feel life leaving me at each passing minute. “Help me, help me” I cried as I ran downstairs, my body smelling of burns, my whole clothes burnt totally. Not minding the gazes of pedestrians and passerby-s on me, I knew I needed to save myself . I ran hastily, making my way to the other side of the road. I needed to board a cab to the hospital, and that had to be done as soon as possible. Different cabs flew past me. They must have thought I was a lunatic due to my appearance and my screeching screams. The last one finally halted in my front, maybe due to the manner I had obstructed it's directon. “Are you okay?” “What's wrong with you” I could hear a female voice distant away from my ears as I was seeing my life fading away. I said my last prayer before darkness finally erupted my sight. ****** My mouth felt dry and sore. All my body ached in terrible pains as I tried dragging my almost lifeless soul into consciousness. Opening my eyes slightly, I pried my eyes around the room and from the sight of the heart monitor and the different charts hung on the walls of the room,I could deduct that I was in a hospital room. “ A hospital?” “What was I actually doing a hospital?” I asked myself, ransacking my brain in search of the last incident that had led me here. “How long had I been here?” “Had i fought with anyone?” “ Did I fall sick” I asked rhetorically, almost audibly as I tried to stand up from the hospital bed where I laid. I tried to lift my head up when I noticed a heavy bandage tied around my head, and I felt a sharp pain in that area. “What?” “Had i gottem myself in an accident?” I asked myself again. This time, I could feel my heart sinking deep down into my stomach. The pain was unbearable, and I tried shouting when a lady dressed in a white uniform stepped into the room, I guessed her to be the nurse. Her face broadened into a wide smile immediately she saw me. “ Hello dear, you are awake?” She asked me, and I nodded. “ Yes, but nurse, how did I get here?” “Why is my head bandaged?” I asked her, curiosity filled in my eyes. “ A good person brought you in here. It was Saud that you got involved in a fire accident. How did you manage to do so?” She asked, curiosity written all over her face. I nodded my head as I could recall everything. Claire had just called me and Infor ex me of my husband's involvement in a fire accident , I had rushed to help but got burnt instead. I rolled my eyes as I thought the whole thing over. “Was there no fire accident?” “ Had Claire just deceived me in order to get me burnt?” I narrated the whole story to the nurse, and she burst into a round of endless hysterical laughter. “Are you hallucinating?” “Today is a public holiday and no public Corporation works today” she released the bombshell, and I realized that i had just been deceived. “But by who exactly” “Was the caller really Claire, and could she prank me just to get me harmed?” I asked myself. I was full of regrets. *************
