5. A known guest (part -1)

Eva's POV I knew Trish was shocked to hear my words but, at that time I had no control over me. After I confessed every thing in front of her, neither Trish nor I said a single word during the whole journey of one hour. I was simply looking around, while sitting at her back while she was concentrated in driving her scooty. I knew many things were running in her mind but I was not ready to tell her anything at that moment and somehow she understood it. There was more traffic in the evening time so it took almost half hour more to reach home. My home was in the same lane as that of her so she dropped me first to my home and then she started her journey towards her home. I was really lucky to have friend like her as she understood, I needed privacy at that time, and she gave me that . I returned home around 7.30pm, as I had a hectic day and I didn't have my lunch so I was wishing if my aunt would have prepared the dinner so that I could have my dinner and could have my, much needed sleep. I knew, I was expecting something which was highly impossible, yet dreaming or expecting something was not in anyone's control. As the entered the house, there was chaos all around, my uncle was scolding the aunty Reva to clean the drawing room properly.Aunt Reva was the staff member of this house. From childhood I had seen her, she is a humble and kind hearted lady. We had many memories together. But when my mother died, uncle and aunt asked her to search some other work as it was difficult for them to pay her and to continue my studies. But today she was here, and was helping in household chores and that thing amused me. Aunt was not near the drawing room but I heard aunt's voice from kitchen. Aunt was there in the kitchen and when I reached the kitchen I saw, she herself was cooking the dinner that was the rarest thing to happen in our family. In true sense I was shocked because my dream came true. But that at very moment, I understood the reason behind. I came out of the kitchen and quickly opened my phone and searched the date. It was 26. 10. 2021. On the same date of every month our Alpha, Oliver Jones used to our house and he had his dinner along with us. Today was 26th October so he was coming. That's way everyone was busy in our house. I quickly opened the door of my room, changed my clothes and was moving towards the kitchen then uncle David called me and said “Eva, don't you know today our Alpha will come, then why you are so late to reach home, see from evening your aunt is in kitchen, don't you have any sense to help her? "He said angryly. "Uncle there was a rouge attack on our pack today and we had a hectic day after day, while we were returning our superintendent called us for meeting", I said in a single breathe, hoping my uncle could understand my situation. "Keep your excuses with you Eva, I am least interested in it. I know there was rouge attack but there was no such casualities. If that was your excuse for today, then you are in big trouble dear." He said with an evil smile. I knew, I was in big trouble for sure. Firstly I was late and secondly aunt was in kitchen. So I quickly went to kitchen and saw aunty trying hard to cook Colonial Goose. She was looking at the recipe book and trying to cook it. But everything was in vain. Suddenly she saw me standing there and I knew now, all frustrations of her will be drained on me. "I guess I need to give you invitation to enter the kitchen and to help me. Don't you know today Alpha will come, so why you are so late. I tried to call you many times but I was not able to connect you." Aunty Helly said while trying to roast the goose. Although she was scolding me so I needed to feel see but the reverse things was happening with me as I was trying hard to control my laughter. Somehow in front of her, I was able to control it. "Aunt actually there was some emergency in the hospital so I was late but don't worry, I hope Alpha Oliver Jones will reach our house around 9pm. So within that I will be able to make the dinner. So tell me what are the menu for today's dinner." I said with a smile. "Eva I want your explanation later but now I want the dinner to ready within one hour. In menu we have Whitebait Fritters, Colonial Goose, Torquila, kiwi burger. In dessert we have pavlova. I cooked Whitebait Fritters, Torquila, kiwi burger, now quickly cook colonial goose and pavlova. Since you will cook now so I am going to get ready now. Eva, quickly complete you work left and get ready soon, they may come anytime and remember I don't want Alpha to doubt on anything." Aunt said looking at me. I nodded and started my work while she moved towards her room. I started to prepare the dish. Firstly I took out the goose from the large pot which was mixed with water and salt and was kept for refrigerate overnight. Aunt had preheated oven to 450 degrees F so it was a boon in disguise for me. So I quickly removed goose from water and drained water from it. Then I removed all the innards and trimmed the excess fat from the tail. Further rubbed the inside cavity with lemon juice. I placed apple, potato, orange and celery inside the body cavity and trusses the bird like a turkey. Now I placed the goose in the preheated 450 degree F oven and reduced the oven temperature to 350 degrees F.Around 20 to 25 minutes were required to cook each pound and then I basted the goose every half hour with the basting Syrup. Then I carved goose and served it with stuffing and cumberland sauce. Then I mixed all ingredients together in a small bowl. Preheated oven to 350 degrees F. Coarsely chopped the chestnuts and put them in a large bowl. Then added the stuffing mix, raisins, celery, apple, onion and salt and pepper and tossed them. Futher I poured the chicken stock, butter and cream and mixed until evenly moistened and transferred it to a baking dish and baked until the top was browned and crisp. In a saucepan,I combined the stock, port, vinegar, shallots, peppercorns and orange juice and heated them to boil, cooked until of it was reduced by 2/3. Finally I strained and refrigerate it and kept it in a bowl and the colonial goose was ready to serve. Then I started preparing Whitebait Fritters. As it will served as soon as it was cooked so I was preparing it at last. Firstly I broke the eggs in a large bowl, then mixed it with the milk and seasoned it with salt & pepper.Then I mixed the flour and one teaspoon of baking powder and ensured that there was no lumps. I knew the mixture should be thick & runny but not too gloopy so I was very careful at that time. In a colander, I rinsed the whitebait and picked out any river stones or other debris. Drained, and mixed into the egg mixture until it was well combined. Then I heated a frying pan on medium-high heat, and once heated, added the butter/olive oil and dropped in dessert-spoonfuls of the whitebait mixture, and I cooked it until the pattie was set (& starts to go golden on the underside). The whitebait will normally have gone white at this stage. Finally I turned, and cooked on the other side until golden in colour. I kept them warm in the oven until it was ready to serve. Lastly all the dishes were ready, and I was relieved that I was able to complete my work in time. Around 5 to 10 minutes later, I heard noise in the drawing room. I understood, the guest had arrived. So I started to make coffee for him. I placed the pan on the stove and was pouring water, suddenly my aunt came and informed me that the whole family of Alpha Oliver had came. So I needed to make coffee for three person. It was strange as he never brought his family here in any of his visit to our house. But erasing any further thoughts in my mind, I started making their coffees. I was able to hear the laughing of my aunt and one more lady from the drawing room. As soon as I made coffees for them, I took a trays placed three coffee mugs on it so that I could carry the mugs and serve the guests easily. After placing the coffee mugs properly on the tray, I started moving towards the drawing room. I didn't look at any of them, simply kept the tray on the table and was returning, suddenly my uncle called me and introduce me as his niece to them. When I looked at everyone I was shocked as I wasn't expecting them as his family members.
