8 Alex Harding-Jones arrived at Athens Venizelos Airport on the following Sunday afternoon, took the Metro to the port of Piraeus and bought a one way ticket for Naxos on the ferry due to leave at five thirty. It had been a long day. His ferry, the Blue Star Delos, arrived at Naxos at half past eleven at night. Day met the ferry and his surprisingly upbeat friend. “Hey, Martin! Thanks for meeting me. It’s great to be back.” “Great to see you! Journey OK? The car’s over here…” He picked up one of Alex’s small bags and led the way through the port crowd towards the town, struck afresh by the beauty of the island at night. The sea and the sky were a dark foil for the scintillating lights of the town, from the street lamps and the tavernas in the foreground up to the heritage floodlights
