CHAPTER 17 Ginger drifted out of a sound sleep when she heard the walkie-talkie squawking from the next room. Crap. She must have left it turned on after they abandoned the scavenger hunt. She’d laid down on the bed, intending just to zone out for a few minutes, headphones on and music cranked until she could get back to her happy place. But the stress of the past couple of days and all that hiking around in the fresh air must have gotten the better of her. She rolled out of bed, pulling off her headphones and leaving them on the nightstand. She grabbed her coat, turned off the walkie-talkie in the pocket, and shoved her feet into her boots.
