26 Vicky was struggling to keep moving; wasn’t even sure if it was worth the effort. It felt like the harder she tried these days, the less she achieved. Tempting as it was to stop, though, rolling over and giving up just wasn’t in her nature. If that had been an option, she’d had done it already. The area through which she was walking now was eerily quiet. She went unnoticed; a speck of dust being blown across a landfill site. She looked up at the houses she passed – decent, desirable places once – and wondered if she could find one that was in good enough nick that she could hole-up inside with enough supplies and books to see out her time.
