Chapter 10

1917 Words
-Ritae POV-      The sun felt so warm and cozy. There was a slight breeze that made it the best napping weather. Birds corrupted their beautiful songs as I listened to nature take its natural course. The river gurgled by with fish hooping up in the air occasionally to catch a fly. It felt nice to have a break... well sort of. I could tell that my counterpart was tired. The great waterfall was very pushy. Not in a bad way necessarily, but it was difficult the stuff that Rosie was being trained to do.  Being the healer wasn’t easy. Is was just as important as the Alpha and Luna’s job. She kept everyone safe in a different way, but it was tough. I myself am a warrior but Rosie is an omega which made our balance quite difficult to maintain since most things I wanted to crash through when they needed finesse. The barriers were a pain that’s for sure.      Recently there have been holes, (holes meaning rips in the magical barrier that surrounds the community that Rosie and I together manage and maintain) in multiple places which wouldn’t have been a big deal except some of them seemed to have been forceful entries. None of this was too alarming really but with Rosie’s birthday and induction to becoming the healer it didn’t sit right with me. I didn’t want to alarm Rosie since she was super excited about the upcoming festivities but I was inwardly worried. I may be a wolf and not be able to do much but I was able to sense stuff better than Rosie. I have a lot to work on but she can’t sense hardly anything. It is part of the reason why her trainings are so hard but it can't be helped.      As I laid down in all my wolfish glory, after a while, the birds gradually got quieter and quieter, chipmunks and squirrels stopped chittering. The quiet was lovely.  The gentle breeze, the rustling of leaves, the water all managed to lull me into a very peculiar state of mind.  I was in between wakefulness and slumber, totally aware of my surroundings but in the most relaxed state that I could possibly be.      My limbs didn't move very much but I was extremely comfortable.       Not too long later a faint scent hit my nose.  It seemed familiar in some way but in others it didn't sit well with me. Rosie was fast asleep in our mind without a care in the world.  As I rolled to get into a position with my fluffy tail that could hide my face and eyes, I took a few sniffs of the air.  As it seemed to get closer I wanted to let out a growl but withheld it.  A rogue had gotten through the barrier.       I wasn't quite sure how to go about locating its position without me giving away that I knew they were there. It was hard.  I wanted to get up and rip them limb from limb.  I wasn't a great fighter mind you but I have had a good scrap here and there. As I planned out my attack/escape, I heard a twig snap across the river.  With my ears as radars I was able to pinpoint the breathing of the intruder, cause hehe I got skills. The only problem was my tiny size. From its breathing the wolf sounded bigger and very well trained.  Well not that well trained, but trained enough to control their breathing.  It also sounded male, possibly 120 lbs., which is fairly standard for a warrior wolf. And now I sound like some detective unit.  Okay okay focus. Bad dude is across the river and isn't making their way over or I would have heard them.  So either they see me and are trying to find a way around me or they are just watching me to watch.  I mean not that I'm ugly or anything, I know I'm pretty hot stuff but creepy much?     As I continued to listen for the intruder I remembered my surrounding and picked out the tree that was just behind me to the left as an escape route.  The branch wasn't that high up and I had climbed up many a time in that particular tree, mainly when I was trying to run away from Chance's wolf and Axel's wolf.  For whatever reason though it was kinda hard to run away from Freight.  He was quite the specimen.  His slick black coat and powerful body all screamed yummy to me.  His paws were made for chasing me and pushing down onto the forest floor with my tail in the air.  Sigh.  Many a nights has that handsome wold been a major role in my wolfy dreams at night.  His piercing eyes smoldered whenever he had me in his sights.  When he would finally catch me I would submit and experience the best pleasure of my life.  Of course real life always comes back to bite me in the ass and remind me that he is miles away and won't be home for who knows how long.      Rosie, too, had quite the crush on the counterpart but I could definitely get behind becoming a pair with that duo.  Girl has good tastes.  I was quite proud of her though since earlier yesterday she had gone to the Luna and asked for an invitation for her induction to be sent to Axel.  The Luna took the invitation straight away and had it express delivered which was nice of her, but I was so proud of my shy Rosie.      At this point my stalker hasn’t moved and I don’t know how long we were by the river but it was definitely a few hours. As I kept myself in a sleeping position, the faintest smell hot my nose that made me nearly blow my cover. It was so familiar and masculine but earthy I wanted to seek it out.     I restrained myself and waited for the opportune moment to go looking for it. Over what seemed like an hour or maybe longer the smell grew stronger and stronger until I couldn’t take it any longer.     It ended up being great timing since you wolves growled alerting me to action. I spent up from my spot and ran for the tree and hopped up to the branch, well out of reach from my potential attacker. I could tell that I threw them off with that little stunt.      The scene that unfolded below me was riveting.  A large black wolf charged at my stalker who was a black wolf too but with spurs of light brown and white intermixed in its fur. The all black wolf snarled and spit in anger at the intruder.  The black wolf, I’ll call him handsome and the other dipshit, was circling with dipshit as he go look for a weak spot. Something he could use as leverage. Same thing as dipshit too. I looked too handsome and tried to get some of his attention and it gave me an idea. I saw that with the circling he had been slowly pushing dipshit underneath the tree a little bit more. Of course he wasn’t giving me any sort of acknowledgment so I executed my one shot plan and silently jumped out of the tree, landing right onto dipshit. Let the bucking bronco begin. — Freight POV—    The perp was just within my grasp. The intruder wasn’t an alpha or a high ranking warrior, that much I was certain of. If he were he wouldn’t have allowed me to corner him as easily as I did. Being an alpha’s son definitely had its advantages. Now that I knew that my little mate was safe in the tree I could focus on the intruder. I growled and spat with so much anger I could feel the saliva dripping from my mouth. That I hungered for his throat was a given but I knew we would never get any answers unless he was taken alive. He would suffer that much was certain. Whether it was by my hand or Axel’s fathers was the question.      The spotted wolf retreated just a hint closer to the tree trunk and just as I was about to strike, the little showoff decided to jump on him. She must have planned it since it surprised they make enough for him to make his costly mistake. As he turned to see who had attacked his back, his neck was wide open. I launched myself and closed my teeth around his throat. Not crushing his windpipe but enough to block off his air. He struggled of course but I locked my jaw and kept the grip solid until the wolf went limp. I released him and licked my chops.  Calming my breathing down I turned to take in the beautiful little minx that stood over the body as if she was the one that took it down. Her slick fur was without blemish and shown in the sunlight. She looked like the moon goddess come down from the heavens. I lowered my head and approached her slowly. She was skittish at time but if she ran I would then give chase. If I did that though I for sure would end up breaking a most sacred rule. Never matter until both parties were of age and I didn’t know if I would be able to wait long. She was so tempting.      She must have known what I was thinking too since her face looked as if it were wearing a tiny hint of a smirk. I growled but for a whole different reason. She didn’t understand, apparently since her ears folded back and her tail curled under her body. I tried mind linking with her since she was from my pack and found a sliver of a link waiting to be connected.      I took a deep breath before lowering my body so I laid down on my stomach so that we were eye to eye. She tentatively crept towards me almost as if she was afraid I would bite her or something.     “I’m not gonna hurt you wolf cat.” I kept my voice quiet and soft, causing her to shiver and I could have sworn I smelled arousal flowing off of her coat before she makes her scent.       Her ears perked up and she trotted a little closer until our noses were almost touching. “Is it really you Freight? I thought were wouldn’t see you against four at least a few more months. What happened?”      I smiled a wolffish smile at her before answering. I got up and circled her, for an entirely different reason than the intruder. I wanted to see her from every angle. He followed me with her eyes, then dancing as she watched my calculated movements. Little does she realize that she and Rosertina belong to me and Axel, who was very quiet this whole time.  Author here!!!
