Chapter 9

1981 Words
—Freight POV—     After Axel had received the invitation from our pack for the new healer I had been quite restless to say the least. I couldn’t get over the fact that Brite’s, Chance’s wolf, sister Ritae was becoming the healer’s wolf. Not that it was surprising. She was quite resourceful to say the least, even though she had a small figure. Being very sassy and confident helped her find shortcuts to get around certain situations that would otherwise be difficult for her. I always liked to think of her as the cat wolf. Only reason I say that is because cats are the only ones that can climb trees, or so I thought. Ritae was jumping from tree branch to tree branch keeping away from a grizzly at one point in here early years just after the last healer’s untimely death. She was laughing at the grizzly I could tell but she wouldn’t have been able to do that if she hadn’t figured out a way to climb trees.      Being a few years older then her I knew that I had to take care of her but it had been difficult for me to focus with Axel so angry at hood parents. They hadn’t let him receive the alpha title when he was originally supposed to take it because of his cocky attitude. I wanted to take over but he always shut me out and wouldn’t shift making our connection weaker then it should have been but we worked on our connection over the past year and it was quite nice to be on equal ground with him again. I didn’t understand what he wanted before when first became a teenager but now that he has mellowed out I’m grateful that he trusts me enough to give me full control, sometimes even when he is completely asleep. He will wake up sometimes with me going on a run in his body. I try to always have permission to shift unless it is absolutely necessary for me to take over.      Which isn’t very often but it does happen.     We were currently standing in front of the new pack house that s just finished building for Axel’s uncle’s pack. A good portion of it has been damaged a while ago and the renovation took quite some time. I listened to the conversation with a bored ear really. We were scheduled to leave in two days but I was itching for us to go home. It has been too long since I have been in our own forest home and was craving to go back. I didn’t have a whole lot of patience for them last few days which I knew wore on Axel but I couldn’t help it. I had wanted to go home today but Axel had convinced me to stick it out. Needless to say I wasn’t in the best mood.     Looking at the pack house I did feel a sense of accomplishment for what we had built but I was done. I just want to go home.     It took me a few minutes to realized that Axel’s aunt had Come back from town with a few of the pack women from shopping for groceries. She must of gone to the post office since she was carrying a large stack of mail with her. Normally it didn’t phase e were one way or another but she handed Axel a letter. Saying it was from our pack but didn’t have a name. I looked at the hand writing and felt my heart beat faster. The writing looked very familiar and I was positive that I knew who it was from. Every time we got a letter from the pack it was always addressed by Axel’s mom but the hand writing was different and I got excited about the prospect of who it could possibly be.      Axel sensed my excitement, chuckling, as he ran from his aunt who was swatting at him with the rest of the mail, ran into the pack house, up the stairs and into our room.     Axel sat us down on the bed and opened up the letter. I mentally jumped for joy and did a little happy dance as I read the contents.        You are formally invited to the coronation of the Healer Rosertina Anna Smithson on Full Moon two days hence.  Please attire in all white dressings in celebration of our pure Healer’s induction by Great Mother and the Moon Goddess.    Yes! I knew it. Looking at the handwriting itself sent my heart racing. I imagined Ritae and her other half Rosertina writing the invitations and it made me hard as I imagined taking her without warning bent  over a desk as she tried to finish writing her letters.     “Axel we need to go home. Now! Right now! I can’t take it anymore.”    He smiled at the invitation before addressing me. “I agree Freight. Let me go onto the website and change our flight and then I’ll talk to Uncle about taking us to the airport. It is not that inconvenient to change our plans all of our stuff was going to be shipped to our home anyways.”    “Thank goddess!”   I howled happily and did a happy dance with Axel’s body making him laugh at my uncontrollable excitement. Within a few hours we were on our way home. Since it was such a late flight we were getting into the nearest airport at about 10 or 11 tomorrow morning. I didn’t mind just as long as we got home sooner.  —18 hours later—    I regret my decision. Because of my eagerness to get home I pushed Axel a bit too quickly and made a mistake. Instead of getting in at 10 we got in at 2 and we were both exhausted one of our planes broke on the way out and we had to detour but then we had a hard time getting to our connecting flight and we missed the last flight out so we needed to stay in the airport.      I HATE AIRPORTS!! The noise, the people, the intercoms, the rushing about, all gave me a headache and I’m grumpy now. Axel is feeling it too. It doesn’t help that I’m growling every 10 seconds.      “Relax Freight. We are in our home turf and will be home soon.”      “I need to get out of the airport and plane now. I’m angry, tired and I’m losing it.”    “Don’t worry we are almost to the door.”     He essentially ran to the door and as we stepped outside I could feel my anxiousness slip away as the air hot my nose. Everything was as I remembered it the smell the quietness, for as quiet as it could be in a city. As Axel slowed down and walked around the city many businesses and restaurants that were favorites of Axel’s were closed and some stuff was new. Looking around we saw many things that parked our interest and gave us new intoxicating smells to experience.      One place that was the best sweets shop around and made my mouth water just thinking of it was Delicious Donuts. MS. Mabel was the best little old lady around. There was more to her than what meets the eye but she was so dear and gave us extra stuff whenever we stopped by.  Which never went unwanted that’s for damn sure. Axel entered the shop after thinking of taking some to Rosertina.      Smart kid.      The two of them talked and I didn’t really listen I was so distracted by the sweet smell surrounding me. Everything was so heavenly that it made it very hard to not hop the counter and start eating her confection delights.     Thinking of little cat wolf I grew hard as I began thinking of her reaction to the little gift we were going to give her. I startled when Axel moved for the door with a box of donuts secured in his hand, ready for travel. My life was looking up right up until a terrible smell hit me nose with its potency. Rogue. I growled and urged Axel to get to the tree line quickly so that I could shift.      The closer we got though the stronger the smell became. It worried me. That we didn’t smell rogue in the airport or anywhere in the city until just reaching the outskirts meant that they had been here for quite some time.      I would hope that Linx and his wolf Dom would notice that someone had trespassed on the territory. Once we made it to the tree line i made sure to let Axel set the donuts down and strip his clothes before shifting. As he let me take control I felt relief and a sense of urgency to get home. I picked up hours clothes and the precious cargo before running towards home. The run itself took about 2 hours but the closer we got home the more worried I became. The right scent was getting stronger and stronger which might be just me.     Axel’s Uncle was able to find rogues even if they hid their scent and he taught both axel and I the same skill. I didn’t know if Axel’s father knew about his brother’s ability but he passed it on to us and I was thankful for it now. All of the rigorous training paid off.     As we got into territory that I recognized that was close to the community I slowed down trying to keep as quiet as possible. Birds and squirrels chattered in the trees helping mask the scent and the little noises I made. It was quite difficult since I didn’t know exactly where the rogue was but that didn’t register when I saw the nearly pure white wolf sunbathing/napping in a ray of sun that shone through the trees. The wolf made me hard immediately and gave the most amazing scent. I was ready to pounce on them and take them from behind in wolf form. It didn’t take too long though for me to smell the unwanted fumes coming from some nearby bushes.      I dropped the sounds and clothes before growling and launching myself at the perpetrator’s hiding spot. He saw me too quickly since he took off towards the she-wolf across the river.  He cut across like a streak of a nightmare’s shadow bringing evil into a serene sanctuary. The wolf was all black which was odd because only alphas had black coloring that i knew of hence the reason why my coat was completely black. I quickly made it over the river and ran to meet the other black wolf before he reached our mate. I snarled loudly which caused the lovely little cat wolf to walk up. I knew it was her based on the color of her eyes. They were a colorI could never forgets. She quickly took in her surroundings and saw the rogue headed straight for her.      What does she do? Climb a tree. It helped that she did though so I could focus on the trespasser in front of me. The wolf was surprised by her action since he came to a shudder halt and looked up with a c****d head. That very moment was his undoing. Or so I thought.
