THE NEXT TEST, LUCY knew, was work. The snow still remained a heavy coating on the ground, nowhere near budging with the crazy drop in temperatures they'd been experiencing lately. And so Lucy asked Harley to drive her to the barn with the arrangement for him to pick her up when her shift was over, as the forecast for the mid-November Thursday called for nothing but more snow. "Just stay calm," Harley told her, knowing all too well, just as Lucy herself did, what could sometimes happen when she let her anger get the best of her. "I'll try," Lucy sighed.
