Chapter Nine: Pulled in

330 Words
The days following Alexander’s unexpected visit blurred together for Aria. Her work, errands, and attempts to maintain a sense of normalcy were consistently interrupted by thoughts of him. His words, his presence, and the danger that seemed to surround him haunted her. She tried to convince herself that she could handle it—handle him. Yet, every memory of him stepping in front of her, shielding her from unseen threats, made her pulse race and her resolve weaken. One evening, her phone rang. It was a message from an unknown number: “We see everything. Don’t be alone.” Her stomach tightened with anxiety. Fear prickled her skin as she realized just how deep she had stepped into Alexander's world. Before she could process it, a knock at the door made her jump. It was him—Alexander Cross—standing there, calm yet intense as ever. “You’re not safe,” he said quietly, stepping inside. “Not for a second.” Aria swallowed hard. “I can’t live like this,” she said, voice trembling. “The constant danger, the secrets… It’s too much.” Alexander closed the distance between them, his gaze steady and unwavering. “You don’t have to face it alone anymore. I’ll protect you. That’s all that matters.” Her chest tightened. She wanted to argue, to push him away, but the attraction between them was magnetic and impossible to resist. Every instinct in her screamed that she was stepping deeper into a world she couldn’t control—but a small, reckless part of her wanted to embrace it. Alexander reached out, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “You’re not just in my world, Aria,” he said softly. “You’re a part of it now. And I won’t let anything happen to you.” For the first time, Aria realized that fear and attraction, danger and desire, could coexist—and that she no longer wanted to run from either.
