Chapter Two: A Stranger in Her Hands

261 Words
Aria's hands shook as she dialed 911 again, her voice barely steady. Rain soaked her hair and clothes, but she hardly noticed. All that mattered was keeping him alive until help arrived. The sound of sirens grew closer, echoing through the empty streets. She felt the man shift slightly in her arms, groaning. “Stay… stay with me,” she whispered again, more to steady herself than to him. Finally, the paramedics arrived. Aria stepped back to allow them to take over. She watched as they lifted him onto the stretcher, a whirlwind of movement and medical jargon she barely understood. One of the paramedics gave her a brief glance. “You did well, miss. He wouldn’t have survived without you.” Aria nodded, swallowing the lump in her throat. She wanted to ask about him ,his name, who he was. but then the ambulance doors slammed shut, and he was gone, leaving her alone in the storm. The rain felt colder now, heavier somehow. She hugged herself tighter and began walking home, her mind racing. Who was he? And why did she feel as though she’d just glimpsed something that would change her life forever? By the time she reached her small apartment, she was soaked to the skin. Aria sank onto the couch, shivering, as her thoughts raced. The night had dealt her fate in the form of a stranger, and somehow, she knew this is just the beginning. Somewhere out there, he was still alive—and she had no idea that their paths were now inseparably linked.
