Marry Me

Lucian’s fingers wrapped firmly around my arm, pulling me toward him with enough force to snap me out of the spiral I was drowning in. I stumbled, and my hand instinctively pressed against his chest to steady myself. His scent surrounded me again—intense, dark, dizzying. His voice was low, the calm before a storm. “Why are you so scared?” I blinked up at him, only now realizing that my hands were trembling. “I’m not scared,” I lied, my voice a whisper, too thin to hold weight. “I just… I want to go home. Please take me.” He scoffed—just like he did last night. A sound that was equal parts disbelief and disdain. “To the same home that is meant to ruin you?” he said, voice sharp like a blade dipped in truth. I stiffened, my heart freezing. He wouldn't know ... would he? . “What do you mean by that?” His eyes—usually unreadable—softened. Just for a second. A blink. A breath. And then the cold edge returned. “I had my assistant pull the CCTV footage from the hotel last night,” he said slowly, deliberately. “Turns out your sister and your father's wife paid the drunk bastard to humiliate you.” My breath hitched. I stared at him, a mix of horror and nausea rising in my throat. A part of me wasn’t shocked—not really. Regina would do anything to bring me down. But this? This was too fast. It wasn't like this then. In my last life, they didn’t get this bold until the end. Until they were sure I had no fight left. They were always petty—cruel comments, gaslighting, sabotaging small things and making my father despise me more. But no outright assaults. She'd lock me up in our basement for long without food but this...this was downright different. Was it because I've started rebelling this time? Regina’s voice echoed in my head: “You think you’ll get away with it?” So this is what she meant. I was lost in thought, spiraling again, trying to piece together how fast the timeline had shifted, how dangerous things had become. My mind claw desperately and I realize that my impending end might come sooner if I did not act fast. I didn’t realize how distant I looked until Lucian’s hands moved—one gripping my waist, anchoring me back to him. I looked up. His cold detached eyes snatched me up to reality and it was in that moment I realized: I couldn’t keep stalling. I have to take the big bull by its horn I have to act fast. If I wanted to survive, to win, to escape the fate that had already claimed me once— I had to be bold. I had to make the move. So I steadied myself, lifted my chin, and looked directly into his eyes. “Marry me.” Silence. Heavy, stretching, filled with a tension so sharp it could split bone. He blink as if just registering the word I just uttered. His fingers tightened fractionally around my waist, like he was anchoring himself from the shock—or maybe testing to see if I’d flinch. I didn’t. A slow smirk curled at the edge of his lips—not the warm kind...it was never the warm kind with him. It was cold. Amused. Dangerous. “You’re bold,” he said finally, voice low and smooth like velvet over steel. “I’ll give you that.” I said nothing. My heart was thundering in my chest, but I kept my gaze locked with his. I couldn’t back down. Not now. His eyes narrowed slightly, a glint of something unreadable flickering there. “Do you know what it means to be Mrs. D’Amaro?” The name alone sent a chill through me. The weight of it. The power, the danger but I'm also aware of the power, the protection and respect that comes with it. I shook my head. “No.” " But I'll learn wouldn't I?". He tilted his head, studying me. “Really?” His tone was mocking now, curious and calculating all at once. “You think this is some fairy tale, little girl? That marrying me will make your enemies disappear?” “I think marrying you will make them think twice before trying again.” Another pause. His expression remained neutral—almost bored, but the sharpness in his gaze betrayed him. He was paying attention. Every word I spoke was being measured, analyzed, weighed. “And what,” he said slowly, stepping closer, “can you offer me… if I marry you?” My throat tightened, but I didn’t let it show. I forced myself to lift my chin higher. “Loyalty. Obedience when necessary. And most importantly…” I paused, then took a step forward. “An enemy's daughter who is willing to destroy her own house to build a new empire.” " I'll help you destroy your rivals". at least I have vivid information of what'll happen for two years That got his attention. A flicker—barely there—but it passed through his eyes like a spark. He said nothing. I, however, could hear the blood rushing in my ears. My knees were trembling, but I masked it with stillness. Inside, I was screaming. What are you doing? This is Lucian D’Amaro. He could ruin you with one word But I had already been ruined once before. So I kept my voice even. My shoulders squared. “I’m not asking for love,” I said. “I’m asking for a deal.”
