The night sky was absolutely beautiful. The moon was so round and bright, illuminating the white sandy beach on the Estate, it felt as if I could reach up and touch it. I was walking on the beach near the mansion, and I couldn’t help but remember beautiful nights just like this one when Victor and I would take long walks on the beach. We would talk, laugh and hold hands, making plans as if we had all the time in the world. But as beautiful as tonight was, it felt much different than previous nights. It was cold and empty. I took a deep breath, to release the tightness in my chest, that now felt like a permanent affliction I would never get rid of.
